Ladies
I have been reading this thread and have to know what a porkpie is and what a scotch egg or picnic egg is.
I am originally a NYer (yeah Gummy!) and I have never heard of any of them. You all seem very fond of them so was wondering what they are!

Hmm, well, it's going to sound pretty gross if we describe it...

So a porkpie is mushed up pork meat in a jelly (animal fat) surrounding housed in pastry.

A picnic egg is mushed up egg (maybe something else?) in breadcrumb type things... they're about the size of an apricot.

A scotch egg is a whole boiled egg, with sausage meat covering it and again dipped in the breadcrumb type thing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I just eat them and try not to think too much about it!!

Minus the jelly part, the porkpie doesn't sound too God awful bad. Kind of like a spin off of beef wellington.

The mushed egg in breadcrumbs,is it fried or baked after that? Not sounding too yummy.

The scotch egg soundsl like something I would probably like.

I'll try anything once and usually twice if it doesn't bite!

Thanks for the explanations

Hi RoRo, they're all snack sized, typical thing for picnics.

The scotch egg is mashed up boiled egg, hmm, can't remember if it's yolk only. It's a little ball.

Ok, been out of the UK too long, can't wait for chicken pie and peas, scotch eggs, proper sausages, pickled onion monster munch..
