Interesting point about the left handed thing. My younger brother is a lefty. I wonder if he was part of a twin set. sounds like a cardigan and jumper combo!!! If he was a twin, then I guess there is a potentially higher chance of twins for me. It also looks as though we're going down the IVF route - every month that goes by is a month closer to the treatment, so I guess there is a slightly higher chance there too.
Has anyone else heard that twin births skip generations - like men going bald???
xx | the skipping the generation thing is cause a man can make his wife produce two eggs so it doesnt increase the cahnce there but he can pass it to his daughter so therefore skipping generations. I read up on this can u tell?
It means if u mum was a non identical twins she can pass the hyperovulation thing on to all the daughters so they can have twins or pass it to the sons who then pass it to their daughters |

That said, the quote below provides a good explanation of why having twins on the father's side doesn't predispose him to father twins:
i.e. the gene is not for "producing twins"; rather it is for hyperovulation. Since the male does not ovulate, he would theoretically pass on the hyperovulation gene to his daughter. This means a man with twins in his family is predisposed to having twin grandchildren (only of his daughters' children, since the gene is for hyperovulation) as opposed to twin children.
So Yaya, you are correct- you could have been passed the gene from your paternal grandmother. | whoops didnt see this until i posted the same |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I'd love twins. We want 4 kids, and after 21 months of ttc #3, and with me being almost 38, and having acute SPD last time, twins would be the ideal thing! I'm under no illusions. I know that the pregnancy would be doubly hard with two. And I know that the first 2-3 years must be really difficult, but the joys far outway the difficulties.
I have no idea if they run in my family as I was adopted at birth, so I've only got the age thing in my favour (I knew there was something good about being so ancient!!!) |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I chjildmind a set of twins ( one of each) and it's fab In an ideal world yes twins would be great - esp as we are into our 3rd year of TTC now and intend if we ever fall, to try straight away again! - but in reality it's jsut romanticism, not likely to happen.
Although..... that said, my online friend has 5yo twin boys ( identical) and is now having another set of identical twins!!!!! but she is very very worried thougha s there are all kinds of risks involed with twins anyway, but more so Idnetical twins as to what can go wrong. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Yams Ladies!!!!!
Yams are thought to contain chemicals that stimulate hyperovulation, increasing your chances of conceiving twins. Just thought I'de mention that. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | The Yam theory is based primarily on some communities in Nigeria where twins predominate. Since the (white wild) yams that they eat as a staple are estrogenic & higher estrogen levels can sometimes result in hyperovulation, the theory goes that a diet heavy in that type of yam (which is different from the yellow / orange kind generally avail. in a North American supermarket) would predispose one to having twins. |
