I haven't posted for a while, so to recap, DH and myslef have been ttc for nearly a year. I am using the CBFM and have had a peak for the last 2 months (having had only high's for the initial 2 cycles).

My husband had a sperm count done and I have the result here in front of me. I work at the hospital so was able to get a print out of the result and really want to know what the results mean without having to wait to see the GP, so I was wondering if anyone knew.

It reads that his concentration is 218 10^6/ml

What does this mean? I have read that 20 million per ml is considered ok, but what do these numbers mean? His motility is 30% which I think is low (I have read that 50-60% is considerd normal). I desperatley want to know asap so would be SO greatful is anyone could shed some light on this statistic for me.

Is normal forms the amount of normal looking sperm?

I did a lot of googling and found the % quoted were much higher than what my own hospital said was normal, there seems to be a huge differential in the levels people refer to.

My own hospital said more than 40% motility was normal for instance. If you are uncertain, best person to contact is your own consultant and explain that youa re finding conflicting advice and aren't really sure what to think.

218 10^6 = 218,000,000 (218 million??) but that seems like quite a lot.

the three factors they test for in sperm is number of them (concetration), how many of them move well (motility), and how many of them are normal (one head one tail). so it sounds like you have got the firrst two and are waitin on the last one. and motility i do believe is 40%+ but it really comes down to a combination of all three factors because if you have loads and none of them move, then its not gonna do anything for you, but if you have a few but they all are rocker stars, then you are all good...you know what i mean?? so i hope that helps, but without all the details its hard to know...

Unless its a tyoing error and its 21.8 million, which would be more like it.
We're still waiting for the final bit of the result, which I think is the formation of the swimmers.
