How long is a long time?

I'm just curious to know, at what point did u (or will u) consider that you have been TTC for a *long time*? I know this must be different for everyone and that there are no rights and wrongs, I'm just curious.

I've been TTC for 12 months this time round, but it doesn't seem to be a long time in my head. I know I missed out on about 6 of those months due to bad timing, for one thing!

But now that the magical number *12* has appeared I'm starting to wonder how long this is gonna take. I think I can probably take a couple more cycles before it starts to become a *long time* in my head.

How about u other ladies?

Id consider 12 months as a long time, its after then that youd consider there maybe a problem as facts state it can take a normal couple up to a year to conceive.

I think I'd consider 12 months as a long time. Hard to say though when you aren't in that situation

Thanks for your thoughts ladies! I was thinking tho, that it's a frame of mind. You don't enter your 11th month thinking, yay, I'm just normal, then enter your 12 month thinking "something must be up!" It's a gradual thing. Personally I'm fine with being 12 months, as I said. The 12 months thing is just an average after all. I'm sure a lot of people feel it's a long time much earlier than that?

I think 12 months I was thinking yes it's dragging on but then as you all say, it's average time anyway - 18 months was hard, 2 years harder, and another 2.5months and it'll be 2.5 yrs - I stopped couting cycles at 27 I think ( obv have more cycles than months..

suppose the answer will be different for different people though, whats long to one person, I would regard as very short now!

It think 12 months is quite average, especially if you're over 30.

I've been ttc since September 2006, but I guess because that time has been "broken up" by a number of treatments and a couple of pregnancies it doesn't really feel that long in some ways... but in others it feels like forever! I try not to think about it that much, because I AM GETTING MY STICKY BEAN BEFORE THE END OF THE SUMMER. Just thought I'd make sure my body heard that.

We're on cycle 12 at the moment, though its only 11 months and to be honest I don't feel like rushing to the doctors next month. Don't know why. I guess I know that because hubby is away such a lot it could realistically take a bit longer, I'm still young (30 in Aug) and I suppose I've just accepted that some things in life you really can't control. It took me a while as I am a bit of a control freak! But if I remember right I freaked at about 9 months because then I could have been giving birth, but after that I relaxed into it a bit more.

I think as you say its a really personal thing and all about your own frame of mind.
