Im so sorry hun , I think what I had was a chemical pregnancy also , but when I went to ER the doc said it was an early mc , I had 4 positve preg test and a positive blood test and a week later I took a dollar tree test just to see if it worked and it showed neg later on that night I started spotting and went to er , my hcg levels were down to 8 , weird thing is when I got home I started bleeding bright red and it only lasted for 2 days and the doc told me it would be just like A regular period , but it wasnt .

Been there a couple of times.

I personally just carried on. A chemical pregnancy is one that occurs around or not long after a period is due most don't even know they were pregnant -the embryo isn't developing but fertilisation has happened so it produces the hcg detected in pregnancy tests.

They are more common than people realise - When TTC and actively looking for sigsn, dates & testing they are reconises more but are heartbreaking

Can I ask though....

Period a week late?
Still no bleeding?
Any pains?

x

A chemical pregnancy would be more likely to show positive on a quantitative blood serum than on a home pregnancy test (hpt)- as the former test for levels of hcg that are quite low (smallest measurement is 2 or under). For a qualitative blood serum they would be testing for yes/no, and whether you would test positive would depend on how low they set the threshold for pregnancy. HPTs are generally test positive at either 25 or 50. Remember in a chemical pregnancy (early miscarriage) you will be looking at quite low levels that either never rose or are on their way down (or both).

I had a handful of chemical pregnancies 3 of those were confirmed I think but I did have positives followed by hCG levels being taken (was being investigated) these were very low & the hCG levels dropped at a fast rate (thats how the nurse described it to me anyway). Its the down side of early testing but chemical pregnancies can go on until after AF is due so a woman knowing when she is due on probably will test & can still get a positive around this time.

When the hospital tested my samples they to have 'strips' (cheapos lol) and although they may say 50miu they can still detect a lower level hcg presense just they are fainter - just as the nurse said to me also.

PG tests are a nightmare really!

Thanks girls - ur all great.

The only bleeding I had was between 8DPO and 12DPO, I had :BFP: on 14DPO which I thought was a new cycle. That was Friday and the lines has got lighter and lighter to almost nothing today - so I think the test must have picked up on something around the time of the bleeding. I don't know - nothing makes much sense today.

Had a small amount of spotting today with lots of creamy cm. Some very mild cramps in lower back but apart from that nothing.

Just holding on in there at the mo, waiting patiently for a new cycle xx
