does anyone know anything about antimalarial drugs and ttc?

Hi I'm sarah and wttc.. been told not to ttc whilst taking antimalarials as going to africa for honeymoon.. desperate to ttc and hubby a little reluctant as hes so scared at the prospect it might happen sooner rather than later...anyone know about antimalarials and ttc?

Any hints or tips to help the hubby come to terms with ttc to speed the process up?? When should i some off bcp?

So confused! Had 2 chemical pregnancies by accident after antibiotics and pill not working over the last year and surrounded by pregnant people as i work in maternity and find it really hard its them and not me. I honestly can't just stop the bcp and see what happens unless hubby 100% behind it of course so feel a little in limbo...

Any ideas ttc ladies??

Hiya

On the medication front, I know that antimalarials can be very damaging to the inner ear in an adult, causing irreversible sensorineural hearing loss if taken for a prolonged period of time. As this medication gets into your blood stream which a fetus would be feeding off, and the hearing system of the unborn child is fully developed by the end of week 14, perhaps there is a chance that it could cause hearing difficulties.

Not sure if that helps, but whats a month or so while on honeymoon?

When is the big day?

I agree with maz. I have taken antimalarials a couple of times and they are pretty nasty drugs. I don't think I'd be wanting to take them whilst TTC, and it's not that long you have to wait!

As for getting your OH to come round to the idea, gently does it! You're right not to come of BCP behind his back and then spring it on him! (I was tempted to do that so many times !) I suggest a little subtle psychology - just little innocuous comments here and there about what a good dad he would make, how his genes are so great that you can't fail to have amazing kids etc! He will come round in time, I'm sure!

Have a fab honeymoon!

Thanks for that guys! This would be ttc for #1...
I had heard antimalarials need to be finished and a gap of three months before you ttc and it freaked me out...i wondered if anyone had experience of that...
To be honest i think its the hubby and ttc which worries me more.. we have a window in which to concieve (ie between when we come back from honeymoon in june and end dec) for me to get max maternity benefits before i have to be an independant contractor (which just gets me smp) so i'm a little worried about how easy/difficult it will be ttc to tie it in. Its terrible i have to tie ttc with financial arrangments... he would be happy to wait until early next year but that buggers it up financially....and i dont want to put it off indefinately. I really want to trade my wttc status to ttc asap!!!
We got married 4th may.. delay to honeymoon due to work rotas etc...

I think you need to ask your doc about the malaria drugs and how long you should wait.

But as for TTC within a certain time-frame of a few months, forget it! I don't mean that you won't get pg in this time, but if you are stressing about a time-frame it's just not gonna work in your favour. Much better to take a relaxed view and think, "well if we don't conceive in this time-frame it's ok, because then plan B will fall into place", and then you'll probably end up getting pg anyway!!! Sending you some to help you on your way hun!
