Luteal cysts?

Just wondering if anybody could tell me anything more about this. Found it on http://www.peeonastick.com/hptfaq.html#18

"One of the main causes of a delayed period (extra-long luteal phase with high temps) with negative pregnancy tests is a luteal cyst. In a nutshell: when you ovulate, your egg ruptures from a small follicle. This follicle is known as the "corpus luteum" (literally means "yellow body," named for its color, and is the origin of the term "luteal phase.") ............
SOMETIMES, however, there is no pregnancy, but the corpus luteum turns into a small cyst and continues to secrete progesterone long after it's supposed to stop. This is called a luteal cyst, and is responsible for too many false hopes! (Progesterone also causes PMS and pregnancy-like symptoms, such as tender breasts.) If this is the problem, it's simple to resolve (usually a single injection takes care of it) but your doctor needs to see you!"

I was starting to think the only explanation for my absence of periods (since 14th March) was due to my ovaries shrivelling up and dying! But this is another possibility (trying to self-diagnose here!)
Any info greatly appreciated...............................

Hi LoopeyLew, if you had a cyst it wouldn't look like you hadn't ovulated (which would be up & down temps resulting in a saw-tooth pattern appearance on your chart); rather it would show that you had ovulated (starting off lower temps followed by high temps) but the high temps would continue past your usual luteal phase, say to 18dpo or more when your usual luteal phase is 14dpo. This is one of the only scenarios in which your chart can -reasonably- make you think you're pregnant when you're not.

Hope that helps!

loopeylew your lp was quite short last cycle, though it seems clear that you did O (that cycle). Do you think you may have a luteal phase defect? Have you yet seen a doc? If no, bring your charts with you, I think they will likely prove helpful.

ETA for Mrs. R that I highly recommend charting- it will tell you (and if nec. a doc) a lot about your cycle / body.

Yes Dr is referring me to a Specialist as soon as DH does his sperm test, which he is doing next week. I have charted for four cycles now and the previous 3 and my cbfm all show i ovulate too late for attachment. So i am progressing with that, me and DH have ben waiting to do the sperm test in case we miss ovulation, as he has to abstain for 3 days, but with this cycle being the way it is now were just gonna do it anyway next wek when we're off wk

I actually decided that when next AF arrived I would begin charting as it seems to be really useful for alot of you. But its been 2 months now and still no AF. It s just typical!!
