Spotting before AF - query - again...

Hi

I have been reading loads of threads about spotting before your AF being bad recently and am starting to worry.

I have been TTC for 2 years now with not even a hint of a BFP and since coming off the BCP have always spotted brown / pinkish CM (sorry TMI) for about 2 days prior to my AF arriving in full flow for about another 2 days.

I asked my doctor about this when i had a fertiltiy appointment back in March and she said it wasnt anything to worry about so I put it out of my mind - but I'm starting to not actually believe a word my doctors say at the moment (if they send me away with the good old advice of 'just have regular sex' one more time I may scream) so am worried that there really is something wrong.

Does anyone know a) is spotting a few days before AF definitely a bad sign and b) is there anything that can be done to sort the problem out.

Sorry - I know this has been discussed in a few threads recently but was hoping for even more info / opinions. Feel free to ignore if you are getting bored of the spotting debate!!!

TTC is soooooooo pants !!!!

Try not to worry (easier said than done) i normally spot slightly for a couple of days before AF comes - she gives me a heads up so i can get my granny knickers on!!!!

I long for the day when there is no spotting!

Can see by your ticker you are approx. 5 days away from testing - hope you dont get it this month as would be fantastic for you to get you BFP - but if you do go to the doctors - please let us know what they say.

FIngers crossed the spotting stays away and you get your BFP.

This is where I am getting confused as well - i think it was Meil who found something on the internet about spotting - it was an earlier thread a few days ago - and since then a few others have mentioned it. I think the article said something about spotting before AF being indicative of a hormone imbalance.

I hit the two year mark this month and have been really down about it - how did you cope with it - i just wanted to hide in bed all day today when my spotting started.

oh thats new to me!

I had two or three last cycles, spotting about 3 days before, just a little when you wipe y'know?

will maybe have to do a little research on that.... *ponders*

coping - well you jsut get on with it best you can don't you - each cycle a little more hope dies *sigh* I think I cope by generally not allowing myself to get hyped about possibility - this is the first time in a good year I have felt rather upbeat and even daring to consider possibility

I also spot before AF anywhere from 2 to 4 days prior to coming on to my full AF, and I also asked my doctor about it last year when we began to try, she said it was nothing to worry about either! As I read more and more about it being bad, I am also worrying if that is the cause why we can't get pregnant either (though i haven't been trying as long as you, maybe about 6 months) - now we weren't actively trying this month, but i wanted to see what AF would do - I am 12DPO and started spotting as I suspected I would yesterday at 11DPO. Which if Af doesn't come early, I will be spotting for 4 days prior to this month.

I am right now trying to change my diet, because there's been so much candy and sweets in the house since about Valentine's Day and then Easter, my diet has been extra poor, but I noticed the spotting since about August of last year, a couple months before we began trying so I don't know if it's diet. Truth be told I guess since last year my diet hasn't been good but anyways....it could have something to with diet, not eating enough fruits/veggies/whole grains etc. It could have to do with low progesterone /hormones/stress and several other medical reasons.

I am going to print out one or two articles I found to show to my gyno as proof, because I no longer believe it's harmless.

Don't worry hun, I'm just as worried as you are

Spotting pre-AF suggests progestorene levels are dropping, which is quite normal. But if the spotting starts quite a few days before AF, it could be a small concern as it means level are dropping a bit too early in which case a pregnancy might be be sustained (apparently) beyond a few days but loads of girls get this then fall PG successfully.

Has your dr sent you for a day 21 blood test yet? If the only advice they've given you after you've been trying for 2 years is have regular sex, that's crazy! x

I did get a 21 day test done and it came back fine and my progesterone at 21 days was 69 - and the borderline was 30 so i wasn't worried - but now they dont seem to want to do anything else - I have another appointment in August when they will reassess - but am now thinking of getting some more tests done privately to hurry things up.

Do you know if there is anything that can be done to help low progesterone after day 21?
