Don't let him get to you, you've got enough to deal with a the moment. You and having your operation are the most important things. Don't know how things work in SA but if you can find someone who can sort him out for you (sacking him maybe?!).

I would let him fire you, record any conversations you have with him (tell him you are doing this on the tape) and don't speak to him unless there is another staff member around who can act as a witness. Then after he fires you ... which by the way would be unfair dismissal ... I would sue the pants off him.

He can't fire you for it, otherwise you can sue for constructive dismissal. Contact the CAB or a lawyer and get everything sorted out before you go into hospital.

Okay, didn't bother to read through the rest of this thread cause it's just too irritating!!! Who the F&%K is this guy??? It's illegal in the States to be fired for having a surgery, so you might want to get in touch with the Human Resources department at work and report him. I wouldn't hesitate. Quit telling your boss the intimate details of your life. Now, he'll be waiting for you to be sick too much or need extra time off. In his eyes you've just graduated to "high maintenace" employee. Try to stear clear of that situation, especially if you like your job. And if you don't then, walk or let him fire you. It doesn't sound like a very positive work enviornment anyway.
I'm sure someone has already made this suggestion...
From another angle, could you request to use your holiday time, or PTO days(personal time off)? Of corse now, you'd have to wait awhile to get this under his radar.
I won't rant too much, cause I know you've gotta be peed off too. I don't want to upset you further. I hope that it all gets sorted for the best for you. Keeping you in my thoughts.
