Folic and the Witch

DO you girlies continue taking folic acid while AF is in the house? I do, but I'm wondering if I'm being a bit daft in the head doing so - is there any point?

As you're supposed to take it for 3 months before you conceive I just presumed that it needed to build up in your system or something. I take two almost every day (occasionally miss the morning one) as I read somewhere that it's better to have more and it just goes through you if you don't need it.

You should take it all the time while TTC and when PG - why would you have a break? It should be in your system ready for next cycle. I've been really good taking mine everyday - it's a good job it's cheap and/or included in pg multi-vits or it would have cost me a fortune by now!
Come on Mr Storky i'm ready for my May

Don't know, but it kind of crossed my mind that something you need to take once or twice a day won't be sticking around in your system too long, so as long as you started taking it well before ov, what difference would it make? Hypothetical question, as I'm not going to be a guinea pig!!!! (*Ambles off to Google for some science....*)

Not meaning to be the cheeky lil gal I am but this is kinda a non-question - you must take it continuously, with no break. Not sure where the idea of having a break from it during AF came from, never heard of it b4!!!

Oooh my first google finding is a new one for me:
Recent research has shown that it is also very important for men who are planning on fathering children, reducing birth defect risks.[

Suppose it makes sure you have all you need so that you're not filling a deficit which you might if you didn't have enough in your system first?

Makes sense in my head anyway

I like the poll - will try and think of one to post

That was in the papers a few months ago - my OH takes them every day. At least it's one of those things that can't do any harm anyway. Ohh I'll start a 'does your OH take folic acid poll' with your link in it, hope you don't mind me stealing it
