Semen Analysis Results

Got hubby's semen analysis results today - I think it is all good, except for the morphology of the sperm. Overall, the sample was circled as 'satisfactory', as opposed to the other two choices of 'requires repeating' or 'is abnormal'. We haven't been asked to see the GP about the results or anything.

Here they are:

Volume - 4.0ml (shld be 2ml or more)
Concentration - 40 million/ml (shld be 20 million/ml or more)
Motility - 73% (shld be 50% or more)
Good Progression - 65% (shld be 25% or more)
Total Good Progression - 104 million
Normal Morphology - 6% (it says on the form that this measure is not currently defined by WHO, so it does not say what is supposed to be average)

From the research I'v done on the net, normal morphology should be either above 15% or 30% (opinions seem to differ)

Has anyone else's DH had similar results, and still got pregnant? I know the sperm count is good, but if 94% of them are abnormal, that can't be good??!

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Not sure myself, but from what I can tell the results look pretty good. When are you going to your GP to find out more?

I'm not sure. Maybe we'll give it a few more months, to see if anything happens naturally. We haven't been told that we actually need to see anyone about the results - apparently they're 'fine' and 'normal'.

Might get DH to ring them and query the morphology though.

Hiya AutumnSky

Overall it sounds very good to me hun -- esp. on the count & motility. As far as morphology, I'm no expert (lol) but (as i'm pretty interested in sperm ) i have read that the average score for morphology is now between 2% and 6% (with very few men getting more than a 14% score and most lucky to get more than 5%) -- apparently it is so low cause the people testing are becoming more and more 'picky' about what counts as 'normal' sperm I'm not sure how accurate this info is as i read it on the net but i just wanted to say that i think the test results look really good!

Good luck hun

Nope, we haven't queried it with the doctor yet - we're going to give it a few more months to see if anything happens naturally. Just trying to go with the flow and relax about it now.

If nothing has happened by September, we'll definitely be going back to our GP to query the morphology thing.

Did your clinic tell you anything about the morphology results?

I cant remember by OH's actual % results - but he also has below average morphology - however when we discussed this with our doctor she said that because the count is good they dont worry as the number of perfect ones will counteract it.
So dont worry at all.
I have put my OH on vitamins though - as this is supposed to help - and he is having another test done in a few months just to check - but there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

Congratulations.
