Question

What would *you* do...?

Hey girles, I'm just after a bit of advice - please be totally honest!

As some of you may know, despite deciding to try for a baby a good few months ago now, I'm still on the pill. Basically, in the last six months, I've had BV 5 or 6 times now (I've actually lost count!). My doctor has put me on antibiotics every time, with this last dose lasting a month. When I last went to see him, he said that he'd refer me to a gynaecologist if I got it one more time, but that he thought a longer course coupled with a higher dose should get rid of it for good. He also said I should go back and get the all clear in 7 weeks (which is about four weeks from now). He knows I'm desperate to come off the pill (which incidentally I've only been on since January), but said that if I did happen to get pregnant between now and this next appointment, it 'wouldn't be the end of the world'.

Now, my question is this.... I am really, really tempted to stop taking my pill now, rather than farting round with it for another month. I know that if I get BV again while I'm pregnant it's trickier to treat, and I know I should probably be sensible and wait, but the truth is, I really don't want to!

My OH thinks I should wait ("It's only another month, honey" - !!!) and has tried to convince me that I'd be more comfortable when we go on holiday in September if I'm not too pregnant ... truth is, I can't wait to waddle round the pool with a big old bump and a great big grin on my face!

I'm telling myself if I come off it now, chances are I won't get pregnant this month anyway and it'll give my body a chance to settle down before I do. But then, am I just trying to reassure myself because deep down I know I should wait...???

Any advice gratefully received!

Oops, sorry! BV is 'the name of a condition in women where the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted and replaced by an overgrowth of certain bacteria. It is sometimes accompanied by discharge, odor, pain, itching, or burning.' Not particularly pleasant!

I would go on the advice of your Dr.... Its better to get all problems cleared up be fore getting pregnant. however, it also doesnt hurt coming off the pill... Just gives you that headstart for getting the pill out of your system.

Best of luck!

Maybe come off the pill to get it out of your system and use other contraception for now til it's all cleared up. Good luck

If it was me I would come off the pill and use other methods for the time being, it gives your body time to get rid of the synthetic hormones and allow your cycle to balance out.

Hello!

Can completely understand your frustration. I agree with with Lu28 (i.e. come off the pill but use other contraception). It's difficult not to just go for it, but imagine how you would feel if you became pregnant and then found out the BV was back again.

Good luck with ttc, whatever you decide

I'd definately come off the pill now so your body can start adjusting - just check with your dr that the change in hormones won't make your BV worse and harder to treat? You could ask if using condoms will help keep the bacteria levels down maybe?

I'm just going on what I think though. I'd definately check with the dr (or ring NHS direct maybe?)

I have to agree with everyone else. I'd defo come off the pill now, and use other means of contraception until you're ready to start TTC.
