I think I want to give birth naturally and at home. Share your experience.

I am not pregnant yet, but we have been trying for over a year now. I recently watched an amazing documentary called" The Business of Being Born" and it changed the way i thought about birth! I really think I want to do a home birth without any drugs (granted I am healthy and everything looks good). I really need to hear real life experiences to help me out with this important decision. Also, if you live in Az and can recommend a midwife located in Arizona I would love that! Even better would be if they were Christian, so I could feel free to pray and listen to worship music when giving birth.

Hi! I also watched extracts from that film on youtube. Scary stuff. I'd love for my baby (when that day comes) to be born at home. Think my family will go ballistic if they hear that, though, since such things are not 'on' in my family. That is, if all is well with the baby and me and we're healthy enough.
I think you have a fantastic and blessed idea, provided it is safe and you have a good midwife.
You can also do a search on youtube on 'breast crawling' and 'we could be kinder'. Or on cutting the cord after birth. Will give you lots of new stuff to think about. Already I have decided that if a doctor comes near my baby's cord with a pair of scissors within ten minutes, that doctor is going to get a kick in the face. STAY AWAY. Watch it, you'll see what I mean.

hiya, i'm from the UK but gave birth at home to my second son in June 2008. my first pregnancy and birth were text book with no issues at all, so everyone was happy for me to go for it. on the night in question we were sat at home in the evening watching TV when my waters broke, less than 2 and a half hours later my son was in my arms and about thirty minutes later the midwifes had gone and we were alone at home with our new baby.

i had planned to give birth in a pool, but due to the speedy labour, my poor husband didn't have time to fill it up before i had to start pushing, so he was born on the floor in the lounge. i would totally recommend a home birth. it was peaceful, i was in familiar surroundings, my eldest who was 18 months old at the time was asleep in his cot the whole time. i couldn't have any pain relief as the midwifes had to rush over so didn't have chance to get any, but didn't really need anything anyway.

good luck with everything xx

I haven't had any children yet and I'm not pregnant yet either, but I watched that same documentary and I definitely want to have an at home birth with a midwife if possible when the time comes. I know it's not much help but I'm in the same boat!
