11 Months - No Time at All to be TTC ???

I feel so upset right now following my drs appt this morning. So here's the story...

I went to see my GP this morning to hopefully get myself some progesterone tablets. Long story short I've been seeing gynae who told me on 11/02 that I would need progesterone tablets for me to have a chance at conceiving but that I would need to see my GP for the prescription. Last week (when I was told to see them) the letter hadn't been sent to the GP so I couldn't get the prescription so instead I made an appt with the actual GP in the hope of getting them.

Anyway, off I trot down to see my dr with my charts at hand so that I could show the times when the spotting most happened. He nodded and agreed with what I was telling him. The thing is though, when I told him that we'd been trying for 11 months he told me that "11 months is no time at all"! I was gobsmacked... I then replied that even if that's the case, come 12 months you can be sent off to a fertility specialist! He then proceeded to tell me that he thought I was very impatient. AND to top it all off, he wasn't comfortable issuing me with a prescription for progesterone without having received the letter from the hospital. His tone was rather rude but tbh it was the comment about ttc for 11 months that really upset me.

You know, I get it that my ttc isn't the most important thing in the world to anybody else but it sure as hell is to me! And I get that I've been seen before the 12 months but that hasn't been with a FS, I've been investigated for all sorts due to bleeding throughout my cycles. Initially I was thought to have cysts and then a possible thryoid problem. I understand that these can be fertility related but the main thing was that I was bleeding not that I wasn't getting pregnant!

What a &%*! - just make an appointment to see another doctor. Who has the right to tell anyone what is 'no time at all'. That is his opinion and he shouldn't just dismiss your feelings because he has that opinion (which in MY opinion is rubbish anyway - 11 months is quite a long time)....

I'd just go in and see someone else, when you ring up ask to see a doc who has a special interest in conception / pregnancy... And explain how upset you were with his attitude

Good luck x x

I agree.. You went to him for his professional help.. not his opinion. It was out of line for him to tell you that it's "no time at all" when in fact, it is. It's quite some time compared to what most women deal with. I agree, I would see another doctor. And on top of that I would make a complaint with the hospital about his behavior. It isn't necessary for him to give you his opinion on things.. only his professional standard of advice.

I'd be peeved too hun, and I'm sure that if you see another doctor he'll get you those tablets. I hope it gets worked out. I feel for you.

Grrrrr! Thats peeves me off so much! I HATE it when people, no matter what profession, tell you you haven't been trying long enough or stop trying too hard etc etc. No matter when the start of the TTC journey is for each of us, we are all in it for the same ending result!!! It hurts no matter if it's 1 month TTC, 7 months TTC, 11 months TTC, and 2 years TTC on up! Grrr!

Sounds to me as your GYN has no compassion on this topic of fertility/infertility

My advice is like the others, file a complaint directly or in writing to the Medical board or whomever you must AND make an appt for a new GYN!!!

Sooooo Rude!! My GYN was very kind about my TTC efforts and referred me to a RE after 6 months ACTIVE TTC that followed 4 years NTNP. Most people on here say they are told to wait 12 months before their GYN will send them to a specialist.

Good Luck Sweetie and keep us posted!!!

I'd tell you what I thought of your doctor but there is a 'report post' button on here and I'm sure someone would take offense....

What a tool.

Most GP's don't do any tests etc until you've been ttc for 12 months or more, an see'ing as you've been ttc 11 months i don't see why the doc did'nt just give you want you went in for, you wer'nt just going in for some tests you already knew what your problem was. maybe see a diff doc?

It's so a GP thing they may have specialised area's but from working with the baby doctors theoldermore stale ones just like the fact they work 9-5 and with all the new NHSstuff they want themtodofor more money any bedside manner is going out the window.Mine told me offfor DNA'ing well if I could call and cancel and leave a message I would but I can't.
Get your GYneato fax you the letter or send you a copy even if it is just PP'd by a secratary and book an emergency appointment themoment you get it or talk to the oncall doctor and take it in for the prescription. God knows why the hospital didn't do it.
Good luck

Go see another GP, ditch that dude! Preferably see a woman doctor. I HATE going to men doctors, especially when it's for stuff like that, they just have NO CLUE what women go through when TTC! What a jack-ass. How insensitive!
I'd drop him altogether and just go to your gyno, they're better suited to handle these situations and give you better care.
Good luck, hon. I know some people don't think 11 months is anything to sneeze at but THEY are not the ones that have taken test after test for 11 months only to see that dreaded BFN!
