Wink

Clomid v metformin

Hi girls,

Well I'm on my way to being diagnosed with pcos (have all the symptoms, scan and more blood tests in the next few weeks.)

Just wondered if people have any views about the best treatment. It seems that met treats the cause but clomid is reliable at inducing ovulation (blood tests already show I dont ovulate.)

Any info would be great, I'd like to do to the dr armed with some info and make an informed choice.

Thanks!

Katherine

Do you have any weight issues?
Met can help with weightloss which in turn can help you ovulate natrually, If theres not any weight issues but still not ovulation then clomid would help with that.

You could also ask for a combination of the two if you think that would help?

Thanks Arcanegirl.

No, definitely no probs with weight (BMI 21) but I do have the other symptoms of pcos, like bad skin and hairiness. Just wondered how they pick between the two options but I think you've explained it!!

Hi Kat, I started with the metformin first cause I was over my BMI and it did help to regulate me and I started ovulating but no BFP yet. It also depends on how fast you want to conceive because the met will take a little longer to work

Hello. I was diagnosed but PCOS (although I question that) - I was put on both clomid and Met, but Met stopped by AF, I was almost 2 months late and I stopped taking Met and AF arrived days later, so now I only take Clomid, and it has made me ovulate fine (i didn't O before that, but still have regular AF). Speak to your Doc, some will offer both. It's just a matter of try and see what happens.

Best of luck

Red face

Hey,
I have PCOS and have been on clomid and I'm on my third cycle and this is first on that I have ovulated. So it must be working, I got my first period with out medication in 10 mths.

If this cycle doesnt work I have to go on both Met & clomid. I think it is best to try Clomid first by itself and there are yucky side affects for some on Met.

Hi, im on clomid 100mg, and metformin 1700mg. Cycle 1 Clomid 50mg no Ovulation. So holding thumbs for an eggie this month.
I have been on Clomid now Cycle 2 from CD5-CD9, today im on CD11.
I havn't had any side effects from the met or the clomid this month, as im relaxed and not stressed about this weekends non stop Bding. I have been drinking loads of water and NO coffe or tea, i think that has alot to do with the me not having side effects this month, and im down to 6 smokes a day.

I am also not overweight as my BMI is 25 now.

Good luck hun

Thanks!!

Scan on ovaries on Monday - really looking forward to knowing the answers! Then back to endocrinologist to see about the plan. Hubbie is hoping for clomid as he's always wanted twins!!

However I'm now on CD48 with no signs of AF (late even for me, normally around 36-37 days) so fingers crossed I may not need any drugs. Got a BFN last Thurs, too scared to do another!!
