Extremely annoyed with my GP

Well I visited my GP around 2 months ago as I have endometriosis, and had been getting pain on my lower right side for over 3 weeks, and was concerned about it as we have been TTC now since October, and I now get scared that pain may not be endo related.. so, she booked me in for a scan just to "check" as I havent had one for 2 years since my laparoscopy.. And because of the pain she gave me my usual repeat prescription for Mefenamic acid, which I do need to help with the endo pain the first 2 days of AF.. I told the GP myself and my husband are TTC and she was sympathetic with my situation as endo can sometimes cause problems, so she said that id we havent got pregnant my June, to go back and she will fast track to investigate us just incase we have any other problems which are preventing us getting a BFP, so.. I was happy with this..
I went home and now since we have been TTC i have been a bit more concerned with drugs im taking i.e. paracetamol etc, so I read the label of the mefenamic acid which said... "Do not take this product if you are pregnant, breast feeding, or trying for a baby"
Also found out other NSAIDS's (like ibuprofen) are also very unadvisable to take if TTC!! Have found out it can cause a risk to mine, and the babys health (possibly causing miscarriages)
Im just annoyed that the GP didnt know this about the drug? I have taken this drug for years because my endo, and at the time wasnt TTC so never really checked the indications since.. I am a nurse, and always makes sure medications suit the patient before I give it, let alone a doctor prescribing them to someone who may not know otherwise about drugs.. grr
Sorry for the rant (and possibly being naieve about not being able to take Ibuprofen..Im new to this TTC lark)
Gem x

I would go back and ask her to refer you as you are clearly having problems and you don't want to waste time, FS usually have long waiting lists so you'll have been ttc for a year or so before you are actually seen by a FS.

Can I also thank you for the warning about ibuprefen I use it for period pains it is the only thing that seems to get on top of them. But does that mean that it can prevent you from conceiving or that it can harm the baby which I don't have if I am using it for period pain?

Hi all,

the problem with ibuprofen if taken during pregnancy, it can cause stomach upset, which can trigger small contrctions within the uterus, I only know this from my last pregnancy, I suffered with really bad backache and was advised not to take it by my MW and GP.
Hope this info is useful, you could also google it?

take care

Most things say do not take while pregnant or TTC, becuse they are never going to do drug trials on pregnant women just to see.
As you are taking it when you have already started your period I would not worry too much about it.

if u take the mefenamic acid only when AF arrives arrives you should be ok, someone on here I know was prescribed it a little while ago and she was told to wait until AF appeared before starting to take it,

I took it years ago, and found I only needed to take it when AF arrived, although I know they say to take it a few days before... same with the brufen I guess

It sounds as though by referring u in June to the FS the GP is aware at how long it may take u too see the FS if u only started TTC on October

Good luck

Another thing to consider with NSAIDs: They can sometimes interfere with ovulation. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis so I was on an NSAID all the time before TTC. My rheumatologist told me that I should quit taking it if I get pregnant and that if we try for a few months and do not get pregnant to quit taking it just in case the NSAID was preventing ovulation.
