Laparoscopy?

Hello again,

No responses to other threads but I wondered whether anyone had had a laparoscopy as part of their fertility treatment if yu are indeed being treated? My doctor appears to be using it as a first port of call and I'm a little bit nervous! x

I had one when I was 17 because of suspected endimetriosis. I didnt have it though so that was good. Its a fairly simple procedure and a good way of them having a proper look around you to see whats going on, so not necessarily a bad port of call.

Good luck.

Hi there.
I had a ruptured ectopic end of 2008 and have been ttc since, after many blood tests to see if I'm ovulating they have said they will send me for a laparoscopy. I put a thread on here a while ago to ask about it and got a few responses.
Hope you get some answers, and good luck.

Thank you! Makes me feel a bit better, I think that's what they're checking for. I just wondered because all have really been aware f as a fertility treatment first step is clomid or suchlike.

I see you are a soft cup member, I have a question about them too! Do you think the contraceptive cap would work in the same way (minus the jelly f course!).

Thanks x

Good question. I would think not. The reason I think this (people may disagree) is because the cap fits right round your cervix preventing the sperm entering. The soft-cup (or moon cup) sits low down near the entrance of your vagina so the sperm has free range, but just doesn't come out as easily.

I think the cap would hinder you to be honest.

hi i had a hycosy last sept & then was put on clomid, they were the 1st port of calls after all the initial bloodwork & sperm testing. then i had a lap & dye last wed....my fs didnt think i needed it tho so i ended up paying privately to see a specialist & he agreed with all the symptoms of endo that i had i did need it done, luckily they treat nhs patients too so got it done on nhs there. he said due to the fact we have been ttc for 18 mths that a lap would be a good thing to have done even if they dont find endo just so they can check properly that all is ok in there. Nothing was found but at least we know all is ok so we can push forward for our iui treatment hopefully, we didnt wanna pay for iui until we knew all was fine in there as its so expensive!!

by the way i have used soft cups once.....it went in fine & came out fine but i didnt like it lol so im back to the legs in air & sleeping with pillow under bum he he xx

Much appreciated! See this is what's making me wonder, my OH hasn't had a sperm check, my bloods have been done, but I have only had one day 21 test which was actually on day 19 because of a weekend and I hadn't ovulated then. I had an ultrasound, internal and external which showed a prominent folicle (an egg ready to go I think?) and that's as far as we've gone. Then suddenly I'm booked in for a laparoscopy?! I'll go with it anyway and maybe take backwards steps after that if it's the harder treatment to get normally!

Good point about the cap, I haven't tried it, it was just a thought x

I had a lap after having blood tests and a scan. Its a good way for them to see if there are any problems before they start you on any treatment. If you have the dye through yoiur tubes and they are not blocked then it can actually refreash them, given you a freash start. The prociduer wasnt to bad. Little painful after but to me was worth it

Thank you, that's reassuring. I am a little nervous about the whole thing if I am honest, but I guess it's better to know either way. Will update as I go along, this site is lovely x

I had one too after being sent by my Dr when I went in with a pain in my side, turned out I had a ruptured cyst, and they found endo too. Lazered it away and I got preg 2 months later, miscarried tho, but still got preg! I found it a terrible ordeal, but thats mostly because I'm afraid of blood/cuts, so freaked out when I saw the 'hole' goin into me (which was really a 2cm cut, not the gaping wound I thought it was lmao) Took me awhile to heal just!

Sometimes doctors use it as a first step to make sure everything in there is ok, rather than put you on tablets that won't work if your tubes are blocked or something! Good luck!
