fertility obgyn appoitment results

I posted this in my journal but wanted to post it in a thread so others could read as well.

Just got back from my appointment with my new obgyn. She was wonderful! Since I specifically went there with fertility issues, she was prepared to sit and talk with me about them. She got me a packet of information regarding what sort of tests I will be getting and what they are looking for. She also gave me a magazine called Conceive with articles about fertility.

Based on my 6 previous cycles and discomfort with them, she suspected that I am not Oing. Other than that she said everything looked good and that I am healthy. She recommended that I start taking prenatal vitamins and folic acid, but said my diet was good. I also told her about my mom having trouble conceiving myself and my sister and we both concluded part of the trouble conceiving could be hereditary. She seemed optimistic about helping me as I am only 25 and not 30. *Not that being 30 is bad, but it is more difficult the older you get*

I told her about how bad my last period was and how I felt a plucking sensation around my ovary and thought that it was symptomatic of Oing (but I was on my period at the time) and cysts.

I got my blood taken today and will hopefully get the results back from her in about a week. They will be looking for thyroid function, Prolactin, immunity, ovarian function, and ovulation. I will be out of town probably when she calls, so I wont be able to post them until later I think I have to get blood work again to test my progesterone levels after LH surge. I suspect that it is lower than normal. I told her about how I never got a peak reading on my CBFM as well.

I am also scheduled to have an ultrasound on Friday to take a look and see what is going on with my uterus and ovaries. With my physical exam she told me that internally things felt fine. Everything fell into place since I just got over my period and started a new cycle. She wanted to start testing me right away

I am happy to get some things answered and work toward becoming preg. She told me about clomid and how it can help me O. I am not sure how I feel about taking any kind of meds yet and need to talk more to DH about it. She also wants to get a SA but I don't know how that will fly with my DH. A good thing is that he can do everything at home and I could just drive it to the docs office. We shall see.

Just wanted to post my appointment experience today and hope it can help others who are having the same troubles

what a great post, really useful, informative and positive. I hope this helps some of the other girls with doc appointments. Best of luck petal and I hope the results are all good.

Guys really don't like the SA do they?! But if you go through all sorts of poking, prodding, internal and external exams and potentially medication, I am sure that most decent, loving DH's will provide a sample which they can get in the privacy of their own home. even if they need a little gentle manipulation!!!

thanks everyone. I am feeling like we are moving forward which is great. DH told me that he would do the test...at home if I would take the sample in for him I knew he would do it! Gotta love our men!

Nic your right, with all the prodding and such we go through, SA ain't nothing'!!! But they do have to get their balls grabbed and cough. Then there is the whole prostate thing....so they have their troubles too....we all just do invasive things at different stages I guess.

I forgot to add too that she told me to get on prenatal vitamins and folic acid! So for all of you who already takes these, GOOD JOB! I have been taking just a multi vitamin and she said I should start taking these...

My DH said he would be glad to get his spermies tested because he is convinced that he is the problem (he's just trying to make me feel better I think). Do they do teh sperm test at the regular gyno or do you need to see a fertility specialist for that?
