Hey there, yes this is quite a scary statistic, and I have had myself tested- simply because when I was a teenager I was diagnosed with it ( I only had 1 partner) so it goes to show that you can get it at any time, even if it is ur first time. I am now with my lovely hubby, and we have been together for nine years, but when we started TTC, I got paranoid cos I was having small amounts of bleeding after sex. This was my only symptom before, and I started to get a bit freaked out, soooo- I went to the docs and she gave me an internal exam for pelvic disease and aslo a specimen bottle for chlamidia. Much easier nowadays cos years ago, they used to have to do a vaginal swab. Anyway, I was absolutely terrified it would come back positive, cos that would probrably mena I had had it for at least nine years!!! Anyway, all was fine, and negative, and everything looked ok. Turns out it was just a sensitive cervix. But for any woman who is having doubts, cos this is usually a symptomless disease, I would advise it to be checked out- it is easily sorted with antibiotics. eeeeeek i was unfortunate enough to have got this unwillingly when i was younger (a promiscuous cheating partner) and its scary to think what damage could have been done.

So so important to get tested!!

V.cool thread and most defo something all TTC-ers should be aware of...

Over the past ten years I have had lots of bleeding after sex and thought nothing of it until last year when finally after a year of TTC my doctor suggested I had STD screenings (although I had always been very very careful) anyhow I bought a home swab test for chlamydia and it came back positive !! I was mortified and worked out that I must have caught it 10 years ago !! or my partner was cheating, anyhow on the day I went to get my antibiotics my doctor re-swabbed me and before I took the antibiotics I went to a clinic and had full STD checks, and bloods for HIV and guess what.... after all that and knocking myself sick with the one off dosage for chlamydia, it worked out I never had it to start with !!! I did however find out I had something called bacterial vaginosis (which isnt an STD) but can result in low birth weight and often premature births if you have it and are pregnant...

Defo worth having full STD tests at a clinic before embarking on the TTC route, I am so glad that I had them done now

D xx

I did my swab a couple weeks ago as part of my IUI screening, all clear.

Everyone should definatley do it, its so easy to do yourself at home. I thought i cocked mine up aswell

Also those who get it make sure the nurse/whoever knows its differnet from a smear. The receptionist at my docs didnt and made me a smear appt, luckily the nurse told me what i needed to do so i didnt need the appt. Told the receptionist aswell she got it wrong lol.

now it's got me all scared since i do have spotting in between periods (to which i figure must be ovulation spotting...it very well might be!) But i did have a pap and swabs done last year and got an all-clear. I shouldn't have anything to worry about...right?! darn internet gets me all in a hype. i probably should get another pap done in a month or so, as it'll have been a year now.

thanks for the heads-up though
