Talking

To all the longer time TTC-ers and those with PCOS

Hello ladies :-)

As some of you know I am not a regular poster but here goes another rant !!

I have been TTC since September 2006 and FINALLY..... on 31.3.08 I got my first gyne/fertility appointment (after a long wait !!) and after numerous tests etc etc... ANYWAY..... the consultant was actually a really sweet woman and was very efficient... the first thing she told me was that I was too overweight (erm... i am a little under 12 stone and a size 14), that kinda annoyed me as lots of overweight women get pregnant, anyhow she told me that I also had PCOS (which I knew anyhow) and that it would very hard for me to lose weight (no sh*t) and she is right, I have had to cut my calories to no more than 1000 a day (and thats realllllly hard) and not a drop of weight has come off yet (although I started dieting 2 weeks before my fertility appointment)... anyhow on a positive note, I have been booked in for a laparoscopy (because as I told the doctor in September 2006 I was a good 2 stone lighter (and its only because I got really depressed mid 2007 that I put lots of weight on, with all this TTC stuff and being put on medication that my weight ballooned in addition to the PCOS) so her overweight theory kinda went out the window as I was at a normal weight back then... and in addition I will be having a large cyst removed from my left ovary, a cystoscopy and having my fallopian tubes dyed - I'm not sure when I will get admitted for this procedure as there is a long waiting list in East London but at least its a step ahead.. she said they would also be doing a biopsy (becuase of numerous cervical cancer scares in my late 20s) so its all go... am quite excited that finally someone has taken me seriously enough and understands that I may actually want more than one child and at 32 years of old its not looking all that hopeful !!

Anyhow in the meantime I have thrown away all my ovulation predictor kits and am totally going with the flow and just having s*x whenever the fancy takes me :-)

The Doc also told me that after the operations I would be put on something to stimulate my ovulation (although it appears even with PCOS that I am ovulating normally, thank god, but my cycles are now every 40 days so that kinda delays the process) and also a fat burning medication (cant remember what its called though), so its all go... am feeling very positive and am hoping that 2008 is the way to go !!..

Any other ladies with PCOS - I would love to hear your views, or just views generally from anyone :-)

Thanks for listening to my rant people !!

D xxxx

Glad to hear that things are moving although shocked at how long youve had to wait! I thought my 9 months to get to the assisted conception unit was bad.

Bit harsh about the weight thing, im 11stone 7ish and a 14/16 and ive not had any comments about my weight. Though when my referal started i was 12stone 12.

I wish you all the luck with the next steps of your journey
Mine started the same time as you, i hope both of us dont have much longer to wait

Thanks for your kind responses

Arcanegirl - I was totally gutted when the doc kept harping on about my weight and she also made a comment about me being only 12% fertile with my weight being just under 12 stone... I thought it was a bit harsh and pretty much everyone I have told has said the same thing... I guess doctors want to make sure all women are healthy before falling pregnant, something to do with diabetes through pregnancy

Unfortunately I live in a part of London that is only covered by one main hospital (i.e. Whipps Cross) and the choice of hospitals to go for a gyne referral were very limited... every other hospital I applied to had a waiting list until September/October 2008 so I took the first appointment which came up.. the waiting has been really long and I am a slightly pissed because I have been to the doctors over the past 12 years about my lack of periods only to be told that since I wasnt trying to conceive that I should just go on the pill so I could regulate my periods

Fingers crossed I dont have to wait another 9 months for the operation !!

Best of luck to all of you trying.. I take great comfort since joining this site that there are so many other women in the same type of boat and that I am really not alone !!

Thank you people

Dxxx
