Hi girls,

I haven't logged on for a few days and see we have quite a group now! Thank you all for the low GI advice. I have been trying to stick to low GI since I was diagnosed with PCOS in December 2009 and am doing during the week but find it harder at weekends - wine is not good is it?! ; )

Vee that's great that your first appointment went well and they are being very proactive. A friend of mine had the dye test recently and said it really wasn't too bad so try not to worry.

I have my first fertility appointment next Thursday and can't wait now, just want to get the ball rolling as I haven't had any periods since June 2009! Not good.

Look forward to hearing how everyone is doing.

Hey girls!

Vee try not to worry. I am scared of things like this too, but to give you peace of mind and possibly a BFP it might just be worth a little pain!

LJW wow I didn't realise you hadn't had a period in that long - you must be sooooo frustrated. I really hope they sort it out for you really soon.

So I started my Low GI diet today - I'm not sure everything is 'low' but it's low and medium and definitely not high.

I'm really going to try and cut out potatoes, crisps and sweets for 2 weeks and see how I feel. If I can give them up for 2 weeks then I might stop craving them!

If anyone is really stuck for ideas for Low GI this is some of the stuff I'm having:

Breakfast:
Museli (no added sugar, high fibre) with pro-biotic youghurt (no added sugar!) and berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

Lunch:
Lentils (red, green & mung beans), chick peas, with fresh vegatables and grilled feta cheese, and falafel, or Quorn sausages, or tofu.

Dinner:
Sweet Potato wedges, seed pitta bread, falafel, hummus and loads of raw veg (celery, peppers & cucumber)

Snacks:
Small mango, pomegranate, seed/nuts/dried berries mix

I love all this stuff anyway (although never had lentils before, but they are quite nice!) but it's hard not to want the crisps and stuff as snacks!

Hello, I am thin with PCO, too. I do the diet for 2 months now, it is not easy, because I was a real chocalic before + drank cocoa, 2 coffees daily...and I liked white bread and every unhealthy stuff

Hi VeeBee

Im in similar situation to yourself, Im 28yrs old was diagnosed with PCOS last year im not a typical case not overweight no other symptoms but blood tests confirmed it. My hubby and I been TTC for 15 months now since i came off the pill. The problem i have is that that i dont get very many AF's thanks to the PCOS!

I was referred to a specialist just last nov but because i was jus a month short of a year TTC he wouldn't do very much for me! Arghhh!
But all that happened at that appointment was he took note of all my history with my periods, diet, medical history etc and said to keep trying and come back in 6 months then they would do blood test on me and sperm analysis on hubby.

But since then i went back to doctor and told her its now been 3 months since last AF arrived and she wants to put me on clomid now! So thats where we are now waiting for test results from both of us so i can get clomid! Hopefully it'll gets things going again!

Oh as well i went to acupunture as recommended by friends who swore it helped them to get regular every month, and it did work for one or two months but he told me to stay clear of chocolate (so hard) cause i love it so much, and it could be causing a chemical imbalance which in turn was imbalancing my cycles ..

Hope this helps at all? Know everyone is diff and this might not apply to all, but good luck x

Violet - I might try and stay off the chocolate too - been really wanting it recently and I have zero willpower! Good news that they have finally started testing - let us know how you get on!

Pelle - has the healthy eating had any effect on your cycle? It's so hard so well done for keeping on it for 2 months!

SBB - that food sounds amazing - I'm not really one for pulses and veg cos I also have IBS but I think if I increase the amounts I have slowly it might not be too much of a shock to the system. Also, if I ever do get a BFP I will need to eat healthy for the mini-Vee so it'll be a good start!! Thanks for the encouragement - I will just have to pray that all is well and I will have no pain...

LJW - hope your appointment goes well tomorrow, it must have been so frustrating that nothing has had an effect yet! Come back tomorrow and let us know what they say x

I love this site - I never knew what a fantastic difference complete strangers could make to my frame of mind!

Vee

Hi vee, I suffer from IBS too, but I am a veggie and so I need (and love!) vegetables too much not to have them! Lentils and stuff are really good for protein which I never knew, and I need to replace the meat protein I miss out on....

I REALLY want some crisps!!! And sweets!!

SBB - (what's your name?) I love crisps too but found some oat crisps in the supermarket made by Nairns (the ones who do the oatcakes). The cheese ones are actually really nice, and have "Low-GI" printed on the side so maybe try them? I really like them and you can get boxes of them on the internet too (yum yum). Don't try the sweet chilli ones cos they are foul! There are lots of low-gi type sweet things in Sainsbury's if you go to the bit where they do all the wheat-free and super-scary-healthy stuff...

Ooh that sounds great! I'll make the effort to go to sainsburys then! The thing with crisps is I love S&V and plain ones... I just love salt!! But I'll def give those a go..
My other fave snack is chilli peas, they're like hard peas with chilli and salt and a few peanuts... They're like the ones you get in Bombay mix...

Do you think they could be high GI? I hope not!!

Well peas are pulses = low GI and I'm sure peanuts are low-Gi too so they sound perfect :-)

I did read that if you have low/medium GI food at the same time as high GI food, the overall GI level stays low, so I'm sure as long as you mix and match it'll be fine.

Don't you just love being able to reason your way into eating whatever you like!!
