Question

hospital appointment

ladies i have finally got my hospital appointment. 15th April so not too long to wait. After 2 early mc this year, i am hoping that they can be positive and tell me what to do - if anything. GP said we are ok to try this month so we are going to try and see what happens. my appointment falls after what should be my ov time - hopefully they will be able to see that.
Has anyone else had this kind of gynae appointment - any ideas what they will do?

Good luck with your appointment. I have my next appointment on 17th April, although I think our circumstances are different. I'm trying to work out why haven't conceived at all yet, which is totally different that your situation. I think if anything, your circumstances must be harder to cope with.

Good luck and keep us informed.

xx

Hey you. Just wanted to pop in and ease your mind a little.
I've had this type of 'checking for probs' appointment and my gyne did a few basic tests to make sure hormone levels were good and that nothing was going on internaly. There are two bloods and forgive me I can't remember both names exactly. One is a blood taken on the 3day of your period checking hormone levels can't remember the name. Then the second blood, I think for progesterone(sp), is taken on cd21. I also had a uterus scan done, they make you hold your pee and then take lots of pictures vaginally.... Not fun but it's one of those things. Then of corse the basic exam.
Since you're a mom of two already I doubt that you've got any genetic probs, that you wouldn't know about already... Unless you've remarried or something. But it couldn't hurt to think about your family history and write down any questions that you may have for the doc. And don't feel like you can't do a little detective work on your own. Knowledge is power. Then you'll know exactly what questions to ask, or if there is anything possibly going on.
So I hope that this helps you a little and I also want to say good luck to you. I hope all comes back good!!! Or worst case treatable!!!
Thinking of you.
P

I've had multiple miscarriages and I found out last year I have MTHFR. methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase for the whole name. The basic infomration is this;

One such situation is if the mother has certain mutations in the MTHFR gene. People with this mutation need extra folic acid. Something called homocysteine builds up in their blood and they need folic acid to combat its effects. One of the effects of increased homocysteine build up may be more lost pregnancies. One number I saw was that 21% of women with high homocysteine levels have recurrent pregnancy loss!

It's very easily treated.

It is recommended that MTHFR patients need as much as 10 times the normal folic acid supplement. Not just during pregnancy, either, but every day to lower risk of all vascular disease. Also baby aspirin. I will see if the specialist backs this up next week. There is a prescription vitamin called Folgard which has all the folic acid and B6 and B12 needed by women positive for MTHFR.

Maybe it could be the answer a few women are looking for.
