your experiences of chemical pregnancies ???

I'm experiencing what I believe is my 3rd chemical pregnancy in 3 months of TTC (NTNP before that for 2 months). Though I've only had a faint BFP once in December... my pg symptoms have been strong each month and AF has been both early and horrendously painful. It feels as though my body is gearing up for pregnancy then, all of a sudden, rejecting it. The pg symptoms disappear as soon as AF shows and I can mentally 'feel' the pregnancy leaving me (sorry if I sound mellow-dramatic). I have always had fairly light periods, hardly any PMS and regular 28 day cycles. The last 3 months have been 27 days, 24 days and 26 days, extremely painful and very heavy with clots (TMI but I got a shower earlier, inserted a tampax straight after and blood was dripping off the string 15 mins later). I started to take a multi-vit with B6 this month incase it was a progesterone problem... but obviously not. I would love any advice from anyone who has gone through something similar. I have a 19 year old daughter (textbook pregnancy) and my OH has 4 children. This would be our first together... I'm wondering whether perhaps our genes are compatible ? We are 37 (me) and 41 (OH) so possibly too old for long-term treatment options like IVF. Can anyone shed any light ? thanks x

The only thing I can suggest is see you doc and get them to investigate whats going on, it could just be a hormonal imbalance and simple to fix. Maybe get some 21 day bloods draw to check your progesterone is in good order during your luteal phase and go from there. Unfortunatley its just a sad fact the older we get the higher the rate of mc goes up. Im having the same problem at the moment, Im 41 and have had two perfectly normal pregnancies when I was 26 and 30 years old. Now Ive had a chem and a mc, Im getting pregnant no worries, just the keeping is the problem and have now been referred to my gyno because of my age. I would just involve your doc as quickly as you can and get it looked into.

Thanks WannaB... it just hurts to think maybe 'I' am rejecting perfectly healthy babies (I know technically they're not babies but they would have been). And I know i haven't got the BFP's to prove this but everything is pointing to chemical's... it's hard to greive when you a) have no proof you were even pregnant and b) it's so early. At the same time though... 3 times in a row is killing me right now x

hey, Ive had heaps since TTC no.3 (6 or 7) and finally got a scan done and they found a polyp in my uterus which must have been preventing implantation... my periods have been heavier too with blood clots... maybe you should have an US to rule out such probs?

Wouldn't that have been a problem before TTC though ???

My sypmtoms seem to be worse when everything is concentrated on the left side (last 2 months) e.g. cramping, twinges, pulling, stitch, sciatica - all left-sided. Perhaps you have a point x

If they were chemicals they wernt healthy in the first place, so dont beat yourself up over that, something was wrong with them and your body was doing its job, as aweful as it sounds. Without bfps confirming the other two, there would be know way to know thats what they even were, progesterone in your lp mimics pregnancy symptoms quite well unfortunatley. Have you recently stopped a bc pill etc?

Ive had 4 successful pregnancies before... last one two years ago and never had any problems conceiving - in fact it was too easy... Polyps are like skin tags and can develop reasonably quickly. They are not usually a concern unless TTC or causing heavy bleeding. I think fibriods are similar, common and cause an obstruction as well... I guess it's just something else to rule out :-)

Why have you ruled out a progesterone problem? Vit B6 isn't progesterone! I would go see your GP and ask for the day 21 bloods to be done. If you can get to the doctors today - perhaps they can do a bloodtest to se if you were pregnant this cycle. Also would be a good time to arrange CD3 bloods.

You are not too old for IVF - your DH's age isn't a factor in IVF treatment - though the existing children will more than likely be a barrier if you are not funding it yourself.

Thanks, you have all given me food for thought. Not sure what my next step will be though... GP or NTNP. Feel like I need a break, even though you try not to let it be, TTC is so intense

Good luck everyone xxx
