REALLY BAD CRAMPS ...

I don't know whats going on this month...

I started my first cycle of clomid this month and took it CD2-5. I'm now CD15. My problem is that I've had mild shooting pains both left and right hand side which I took to be the clomid doing its thing, so wasn't too concerned as it wasn't too bad.

I use a CBFM and so far haven't registered my ovulation, which is not normal, although the instructions say that increased levels of estrogen can block out the readings of LH. So I don't actually know whether I've ovulated or not yet - usually its around CD10-11.

My main concern is that I woke up this morning with really bad cramps very similar to AF cramps - only worse - quite low down and right in the middle of my body. I've had them for about three hours now. I've just taken some painkillers and hope that the pain goes. If not I think I'll phone the hospital that prescribed the tablets.

Has anyone else experienced similar? Or does anyone have any ideas whats going on?

Help!!!

could it be OV pain - I get it for a few hours similar to a mix of AF and trapped wind pain but can be worryingly uncomfortable? Hope you feel better soon! Obviously if they get worse or you are worried go to A+E

I don't usually get ovulation pains... Although I guess the clomid could have seen to that. I didn't think it would be ovulation pains as it is right in the middle, and I always assumed that ovulation pains would be to one side or the other...

To be honest Maz I've only just started to notice what my body does as I got pg straight away before I even knew about charting, OV etc. But had MC then started researching everything and have now been really listening to my body. I don't remember my pain being just on one side. Found this for you -

"This is absolutely normal and surprisingly common. Painful ovulation or mid-cycle pain affects about twenty percent of women. Although the pain may feel like something serious is wrong, painful ovulation or is rarely serious.

Painful ovulation, when severe, is referred to as mittelschmerz, a German word that means "middle pain." Most women who experience painful ovulation usually report a nagging pain that begins as a sharp twinge and diminishes into a dull ache for the next day or so. But for some women, the pain can be severe enough to be disabling and can even be confused with appendicitis. Occasionally, in addition to mid cycle pain and cramping, some women may experience nausea, and/or light menstrual spotting. Mittelschmerz lasts for 6 to 8 hours in most women; however, occasionally it can last as long as twenty-four to forty-eight hours.

While the discomfort can occur on either side of the abdomen, it is more commonly experienced on the right. Pain in the abdomen can occur during intercourse or it can be aggravated by intercourse, working out or other physical activity. In addition to pain, some women also experience gastrointestinal symptoms and increased frequency of urination. Painful ovulation may occur every month, but more typically occurs every third to fourth cycle"

I had really strong AF like cramps during what I think was my O time...they lasted for a week! But this isn't usual every month - so like tansey posted...could be just happening every 3-4th months...

Thanks guys for your replies. Pain lasted until just after lunch and is pretty much not there anymore. I feel a bit silly now for panicking. Hopefully I won't experience that again.

Good luck with ttc, and hopefully we'll have our BFPs very soon.

xx
