In an ideal world we would get married and have a honeymoon baby but life doesn't always work out how you imagined! We have been together almost 5 years and OH said this would be our year for a baby and a proposal - so at 35 I'm not hanging around waiting for proposal and wedding plans, a baby is more important to us. me and OH are committed to each other anyway and when the time is right we will make that commitment to each other formal.

I've done it the traditional way, got married and now trying for a baby, which is the way I wanted to do it, catholic traditions etc etc.

However, 2 of my sisters have children, one is getting married in May (my niece will be about 18 months) and the other is always talking about getting married, but never does (her children are 4 and 2).

Im almost the same as you Tansey. Been together 5 years in a month, living together over 4. We have always known we wanted to get married and have children, preferably in that order However, due to my age, i just turned 38 we've been ttc since last year as we can get married anytime, and it can be planned... but a baby is more important and also a bit more difficult to aquire- as we all know all too well..

Funnily, when i did get pg my OH felt propelled i think, to cement our relationship with a wedding. I subsequently had a mc..but he propsed 2 weeks ago at my birthday! i think what we have gone through together has made us stronger and it feels like the right thing to do.

However, we are still ttc as baby still comes first..and its totally possible we'll have baby with us at the wedding!..who knows..but point is although id like things to go in a certain order having children is our first priority! xxx

i dont think it really matter, i cant stand people that look down on people just because they are having a baby and arent married, me and my OH arent married and i dont see it as a problem, we were thinking of getting married when the baby around 1or2, some people still live in the dark ages this is 2008. Its funny cause i did alway think i wanna to get married 1st but now i dont care im in a strong relationship and were having a baby cant get much better than that

Just wanted to add i agree with this as well.. my dad has been with his currrent partner for over 25 years and they have a 13 year old daughter..who cares?

The only thing i find suspect is when you hear (ok, not that often but ive heard it once or twice) of people with kids who say..'marriage..ooh, no...thats too much of a commitment'. As if having children with someone isnt the biggest commitment of all!!!

If you're commited to eachother and the kids, then who cares, really?
