Drinking Tea and coffee

Hello everyone,

I was wondering how many of you drink alot of tea... as I drink loads and I am worried that if I drink alot of tea in the TWW and I am pregnant it will affect the development or the pregnancy itself? Just wondering if anyone knows any more about this?

Thanks in advance

Hi chellebelle, firstly good luck in your TWW, secondly, when i got my BFP 2years ago i was still drinking alot of coffee and tea, I try not to drink to much coffee, but about 3cups tea and 1cup of coffee a day. And loads of water to help the CM.

It has not been proven to be bad for you but alot of questions have been raised on it, so i rather play on the safe side and stick to minimal amount of coffee and tea.

Good luck hope some of the experts can also shed more light on your question cause i would also like to know

Hi Chellebelle,

Not sure if this helps, but i read in the Daily Mail a few weeks ago, that experts apparently are now warning pregnant women (and women TTC) not to consume any Caffeine at all, they said that tests have proven Caffeine can increase the risk of Miscarriage..... But.
Im one of four girls, and my mum never cut out Caffeine, and we were all fine! so i guess its a tricky one really.... i have recently started to drink De-Caf tea and De-caf coffee, but only because i have miscarried before, and so im a bit paranoid... xx

I was drinking a HUGE amount of coffee when I got pregnant. I'd say about 8-10 cups in a day. I did cut back when I got my BFP but before I got to 12 weeks I started drinking at least the recomended maximum again. For some reason though over the past month I've almost completely cut caffiene out as I switched to decaff tea and only have a cup of coffee 2 or 3 times a week.

Too much caffiene is meant to increase your chance of m/c in the early weeks but as far as I know - they don't have a good reason why and there are lots of conflicting studies, some of which say it's perfectly safe. Caffiene is also meant to lead to a low birth weight.

Really it's up to you to decide how comfortable you are with it.

I switched to decaf tea before my BFP for this reason. I normally drink Tetleys but I didnt rate their decaf so I'm now on Typhoo decaf and its lovely.....Mmmmmm.....think I'll brew up now actually....

Thanks everyone, well I have already switched to decaf coffee, so I'll try to switch to decaf tea. I drink about 6 cups of tea a day... and then I drink a couple of cups of Raspberry tea at night... but looking at all the responses from this moment on I am going to either drink water instead of tea or decaf tea... I'll try that Typhoo one - thanks Merv's mum.
