This is exactly right.
Just remember SHOW
SOFT - like your relaxed bottom lip
HIGH - almost hard to reach or find
OPEN - there's a little dimple in the center of your cervix (the os) which will open 2 times during your cycle... Ovulation and Menstruation. If you aren't sure what open feels like, check it during your period... yah I know TMI... but hey, whatever works right!?
WET - You should have copious amounts of wet CM up and around your cervix.
You will have to chart everyday for a month or so to get a GOOD idea of what your cervix is like, and the fertility patterns it can reveal to you.
You much check the same time every day because your cervix tends to drop in some women as the day progresses... so checkinging it in the morning some days and at night on others won't give you a good idea of what your cervix is doing as a pattern.
CP or cervical position is also a PRIMARY indicator of fertility, that is once you know your pattern, you can PREDICT your ovulation and see your fertile window as you enter into it. BBT can only show you when you have ALREADY ovulated and by then you've missed your fertile window.
Good luck!
Just as an aside, I happen to be one of those women whose CP stays very high until prior to menstruation when it drops, opens up and then gets hard (like the end of my nose, vs. like a relaxed bottom lip). I chart CM and use CP to pinpoint my exact fertile window (and vice versa when we are attempting to avoid, I use CM and CP to tell me if I'm NOT fertile

).
