At what point have people been to the doctors???

Hi was just hoping for some feedback on at what point of TTCing did people decide to see if the docs could do anything for them. Its just that i heard that most of the time they tell you to have been trying for at least a year before they'll even bother with you....

my situation is last depo injection sep08 - so it wore off by dec 08 - periods came back march 09 and have been pretty regular since with the last few months being like clockwork thanks to A/C. pretty sure i'm oving also and definately BDing at the crucial times

looking forward to some answers thanks

I waited until just about a year of TTC. But during that year I monitored my ovulation and I know we were DTD at the right times. I am also 32 so that is probably one reason I went to see the specialist right at the year mark. If I was younger, I probably would have given it another 6 months and then have gone.

Doctors will see you to talk things over and stuff, but yeah it does take a year of TTC before they do all the tests and everything.

How long have you been trying for ?

jonkey, I thought the same thing! But then they ordered a bunch of tests and gave me fertility meds that first month. They took it so much more seriously than I thought. I am not sure about in the UK but here in the US these Dr's really want to get success stories. They publish their rate of success on their websites so the more babies the better. I think that has a lot to do with it!

Thats good to know deeni, but like you say it is possibly more a US thing. Over here its more a case of you go to them with an issue, they give you some advice, you go back again and eventually after what feels like pestering, you have enough on your medical notes that they have to start doing something!!! so i'l get the ball rolling in january. Infact, i've got a smear test in 2 weeks so i'l speak to the nurse also

I went in after 18 months and they gave me a blood test which proved normal and sai di could have fertility drugs, but actually warned me that the side effects would be pretty horrible, so left it for another 18 months or so and Oh mentioned it in passing when he was at the docs and they said pop in for another routine bloods, and my prolactin was sky high, so i was treated for a prolactinoma.
