Baby Aspirin?

Does anybody have any knowledge about taking baby aspirin when you've had recurrent m/c? I am thinking about starting this and wondering if I should or shouldn't please let me hear all the good and bad if that's out there too.

Thank you in advance for you replies!

Hi sunshine, so sorry to hear of your losses.

I have had two early miscarriages, one at 8 wks (didn't find until 10 wks) and another which was probably a chemical at 5 or 6 weeks. We've been ttc for about 15 mos.

After the 2nd mc I talked to my doctor about possible causes and she really felt it was just bad luck and said they don't start serious testing until 3 mc's. That wasn't good enough for me so I asked her to do some tests. She ended up running some bloodwork.

From what I have heard, the tests she ran had to do with antibodies, and she told me that if I tested positive (or was it negative?) that one solution was a low dose of asprin throughout pregnancy. My tests came back fine so I did not have to go that route.

I would suggest talking to your doctor about the tests as I have heard that asprin can cause problems during pregnancy. I was even advised to stop using a salicylic acid containing face product during pregnancy (same active ingredient as asprin).

Here are the tests that my dr ran:
LUPUS Inhibitor Russell Viper
Activated Protein'c resistance
Anti-cardiolipin AB

I am also blood type A- and DH is A+ so I had to get the rhogam shots with both miscarriages.

I've read two thoughts on this. One, don't do it without a doctor's advice. And, two, if it's baby aspirin it's such a small dose that it can't hurt and may help women who have a clotting kind of problem where the blood can't get to the fetus. I'm so sorry for your loss. Did your doctor ever determine why you miscarried?

Thank you both for your replies. When I had my mmc back in Mar I had an amnio done (which totally sucked and will never do again) they did all the blood tests like lupus and chromosomal testing and they all came back negative. I will call the dr and ask about it. They are usually pretty good about telling me their opinions. I do have one bright spot is that I know I can carry a child full term. I have a 10yr old DD to prove this. Dr has me using progesterone suppositories after O until af in hopes that will strengthen my utuerus's hold on the baby but who knows at this point. I do have cd3 bloods scheduled in Dec and then cd21bloods as well to determine my egg reserve and progesterone levels. I was just wondering if the baby aspirin could be of some help in holding onto my babies until they are viable.

Can I ask what mmc stands for? I know it has something to do with miscarriage but I can't figure out the first M? Is it a missed miscarriage? If so then that is probably how I should describe my first one from now on. Need to learn the fancy lingo here!

Good luck with your bloodwork. We have our first appt with a fertility specialist on Monday. I don't hold out much hope for what they can do. We know we can get pregnant, so sperm count has to be decent and I'm obviously ovulating, they said my uterus looks normal so don't think it was a problem there. I have a friend who also had 2 miscarriages and then went on to deliver a healthy baby the third time around. I'm almost contemplating canceling the appt but then would hate for there to be a problem and it to take even longer to diagnose. Oh the joys of being a woman! I just really don't feel like being poked and prodded and ultrasounded and then be told that everything looks normal. I also do not think I want to go on any medications such as clomid. Maybe I'll change my mind if I'm told that's my only option, but I think short of a possible luteal phase defect (that obviously doesn't occur every cycle as the first preg held for 8 wks) I really don't think there is anything for them to treat and they'll really just be guessing and throwing meds at me.

Stopping in from first tri because I saw this and had a chuckle.

I took low dose asprin my ENTIRE cycle in October (from Oct 4 to Nov 1 had spotting on Oct 18 but was due to Ov Oct 21) for a heart condition/preventative measures and wound up blissfully pregnant. We only found out about low dose/baby asprin being a fertility aid AFTER we had a hunch we were pregnant (ie: symptoms and no AF) when looking on the internet to see if asprin could have adverse effects on a pregnancy. Especially since I M/Ced in February of this year. After we heard it being a fertility aid we tested and several BFPs later (all on the same pregnancy) I'm 7+2 and quite happy. My doctor has said there's HUGE success with low dose asprin and I still take one baby asprin every other day just to keep blow flow nice and high and good especially since I had that MC earlier this year.

Honestly? Studies show it increases your chances 45% compared to women who don't take it who average 28% every cycle. Take it from my success... It's not a bad investment to give a go. Can't hurt, it's relatively inexpensive, why not?

Def get advice on this. there is evidence aspirin is linked to mc. Its appropraite in certain blood clotting disorders however is considered counterproductive in other conditions.

I'm in the same boat csunshine - although I would not advise just taking it without at least asking your doctor. It is a low dose, but I would hate for it to have some adverse affect. Also, I have heard it can make AF much much worse as it thins the blood! So I think you are only supposed to take it from your first BFP and not before. Good luck.

MMC stands for missed miscarriage yes. I had to be induced at 16wks. I am so sorry for your loss.

I have a call into my Dr today to ask about this so we shall see.

thanks to all who have replied I truly appreciate all you words of wisdom!
