Prenatal Vitamin & B-100 Complex -- Can I take both at once?

Hi All,

I've been taking 100mg of B6 along with my prenatal vitamin for LPD. I've read in a few places though that it's not a good idea to take B6 by itself, so I bought B-100 Complex.

My prenatal (Cyto-Matrix Prenatal Formula from my naturopath) has the following in it:
B1 - 5mg
B2 - 1.5mg
B3 - 30mg
B5 - 10mg
B6 - 25mg
B12 - 20ug (what's "ug"?)
Folic Acid - 1mg
Biotin - 50ug (again, "ug"?)
Choline - 40mg

The B-100 Complex has the following in it:
B1 - 100mg
B2 - 100mg
B3 - 100mg
B5 - 100mg
B6 - 100mg
B12 - 100mcg (what's "mcg"?)
Folic Acid - 0.4mg
Biotin - 100mcg (again, "mcg"?)
Choline Bitartrate - 100mg

So, the question is.....can I take both of these together? Thanks for taking the time to think about this!

I would love to help but I have absolutely no idea!!!

I *think* B vitamins are water-soluable, but that might just be B6

Sorry I can't be of more help!

I have read anything over 100mg per day of B6 is classed as toxic and you can suffer side effects, its one of the only water soluable vitamins that you can overdose on and can cause neurological problems like trouble walking or tingling in hands and feet. Dont forget its also in the foods you eat so you could be getting alot more than what you are supplementing too. I would check up on the RDI's of the rest just to make sure your not taking too much of them as well just to be on the safe side. The vitamin B6 is definatley too much though.

I have stopped taking my "women's" vits and am now just taking a B-Complex and Folic acid. The multi-vits and the B complex took my B6 to a level higher than I wanted to start out on. 50-100mg of B6 is what most people go for - starting at the lower end. The B12 needs to be about the same number as the B6 - only in mu (aka u or mcg or micro), 50mg B6 goes with 50 mu of B12.

Do you think it would be better if I took B-50 Complex with my prenatal instead of the B-100 Complex? I've looked online and can't seem to find the same answer in more than one place.....

For sure. The 100 may be too much alone, but combined with that other 25 is proabbly too much to start with. 75 seems reasonable to non GP me!

Thanks! I haven't opened the bottle of B-100 Complex that I bought yesterday, so I think I'm going to take it back and get the B-50 Complex instead. Then I know that I won't be taking more than I should be of anything. The femara (like clomid) I'm on is supposed to fix my LPD anyway, according to my OB/GYN. Thanks!

This is what i am taking and I was told by a pharmacist that it was good combo:

Morning:

* 50mg of B6
* 1 B-Complex pill

Night:

* 1 Prenatal Pill

that was recommended too. They say to start off with 50mg and then up the dose if needed after the first couple cycles.

I've been on 50mg of B6 since June and increased my dose to 100mg of B6 a month or so ago. I've been reading on here though that you shouldn't take B6 by itself, so I thought I'd take the B-complex. That's when I got confused about whether I should be taking B-50 Complex or B-100 Complex.

My pill regime is a bit more complicated than yours. It's tough to get things in. My prenatal vitamin is one that I was given by my naturopath and it's a 4/day one.

6am -> Thyroid Medication
11am -> Prenatal, 2 x 300mg Iron
5pm -> Prenatal x 2, 1 x 300mg Iron, 1 x 100mg B6 (soon to change though!)
9pm -> Prenatal x 1, 1 x femara (like clomid, but only during CD3 - CD7)

Anyway, I'll go buy the B-50 Complex tomorrow and go with that. Thanks, girls!
