Is it possible

to get all of the OV signs and then not OV??? I'm just wondering as i have had OV'ing signs for 4-5 days now but keep getting neg OPK and was wondering if i might just be trying to ov but not actually ov'ing??? The reason i think this is cos i'm still breastfeeding so think its possible i may not be I just use cheapie OPK's and wondering if i should buy some clearblue ones incase they're a bit duff???

I really hope i am ov'ing

Yes it's possible The only way you can know for sure that you've ovd (without going to the doctor to check) is by temping.

However, and this is really important, OPKs are notoriously CRAP. So just because you don't see a positive OPK, it doesn't mean you didn't ov!

actually... it's very possible to have all the signs of ov - even a temp rise, without releasing an egg. I am a non-ovulator with an amazing temp rise, this just means my progesterone is doing it's job, but the estrogen isn't doing it's job by releasing the egg. This month though I did get a + opk, but no real way to know if I did ov since I didn't get blood levels checked yet. If you are still breast feeding, there is a chance that you aren't actually ovulating, though some women do ovulate while breastfeeding. Everyone is different, so for you, I'm afraid no one on here will be able to tell you if you are or aren't ovulating.

I was wondering the same thing. The last 2 months I have had a temperature rise but negative OPKs. This month I did 2 a day so I really couldn't have missed it.

Prayerful hope, can you tell me a bit more about this? How do you find out if you are actually ovulating? I always assumed that if you had a sustained temp rise it meant you had released an egg. I'm concerned because I have been diagnosed with PCOS in the past but didn't think it was a problem now because I have regular cycles with a temp rise.

Wow - your case is really interesting! Hope you don't mind if I ask you a few questions?

I always thought that progesterone is released as a result of ovulation - for example on FF says this: Your BBT is your fertility sign that relates to the hormone progesterone. This is the only sign that can confirm that ovulation actually happened, while all the other signs (except some that may be done in your doctor's office) only tell you that ovulation may be approaching.

And I thought that progesterone comes from the corpus luteum and that is (from justmommies.com) The corpus luteum, which means yellow body in Latin, is what is left of the follicle after a woman ovulates.

I'm really intrigued by your case! Have the doctors explained how you get your progesterone without ovulating?

Seems that everything I thought I knew was wrong!

Oh and by the way, my doctor confirmed that I was ovulating by looking at my FF charts. That's all he needed to see to be sure - so he said. Do you think he's wrong?

I went to the doc last week and he said if i didn't think i was ov'ing he would send me for tests but i was really hoping i wouldn't need to go

I can't temp cos my little man still wakes for feeds thru the night so i wouldn't get a very accurate temp if i did take it. Well looks lik i will just have to wait and see this month and if no luck i will go to docs i suppose I want my son to self wean so don't want to stop BF, but i suppose what will be will be i will ov when my body is ready, i'm just so impatient lol

Hun has your af returned? If it has then there is no special reason to assume you're not ovving is there? I used OPKs for months and rarely got a true positive on them - the LH surge can be really short-lived - like a matter of hours, and easy to miss. What time of day do you do the opk?

magicvw, I thought that too about the corpus luteum so I wasn't too worried as long as I saw the temp rise. I would really love to find out if it's possible to have the temp rise without ovulating.

Yeah my AF came back when LO was 8 months they started really long but have gotten shorter each time i'm on my 4th cycle now since she returned. My last cycle was 37 days (started at 50) and this one seems to be shorter again. I've been testing around midday everyday with the OPK's, me and OH have been BD'ing everyday since i started getting the signs so FX'd the OPK's aren't working or are missing the surge and i am OV'ing, i'm gonna stay positive until i get AF and not worry too much about it or i'll drive myself crazy.

Thank you magicvw and thanks ladies for your responses
