Temping/charting advice please :)

..to temp or not to temp!?!

i was thinking on buying a thermometer and start charting properly did this help anyone?
i think my cycles are irregular at the moment following a loss so im having a hard time pinpointing exactly when i ovulate (if atall!!!!! - cd1 today for me and i find it ridiculous to think that oh and i bd'd nearly 3 times PER DAY every day for the last month and resulted in no seed!!!!)

just wondered if i should do it this month to see where i am exactly (im out for the next 1-2 cycles anyway til oh gets back!)

Hi in am new to all this and have been charting my temps this month, only in CD6 now and I have just come off BCP's so am still unsure just how long my natural cycle is so if u don't mind I'll stalk this thread to get sone advice on temps as well! Sorry I may not be much help but your temps should remain stable before OV and 24 hours before OV should rise by a fre tenths (well, that's what I've read)... So you should get quite a reliable warning of when the OV day is coming.
This cycle mine has been sort of messed up though as I have had tonsilitus which resulted in a fever etc... That certainly confused me!

Hope this helps, I think charting as much as poss can only help speed the TTC journey up! Good luck xx

yes temping is great - go for it! You will learn lots about your body!

As for the temp rise - it doesn't happen before ov, it happens afterwards. After you ov, progesterone is released into your body and makes you slightly warmer, until af comes. If you get preggo, your temps stay up. Once your temp has risen, it's too late to catch that eggy I'm afraid. Temping is no good for telling you when to - you need to chart your cm, cp or opk's for that. Temping proves that you are oving, and tells you when exactly you did (note past tense!), and so allows you to work out your luteal phase length. Knowing when you ovd exactly is also useful if you do get preggo and your cycles are not the average 28 days - you will know more precisely when conception occured (doctors just assume it was cd14 usually).

Hope that helps!

Well try bd every other day instead of three times a day, because you can really decrease his sperm count and quality that way. Start about 8 days after day 1 of your cycle, and bd every other day.

I don't really like charting, but mainly because i have super long cycles, though it does help in the long run to have charts and such when you go in for fertility help. (hopefully you never have to though )
Good luck.

thanks for all the advice ladies! i think i will definately go out and buy a thermometer and read up on how to chart. even if i temp this month since i know i wont conceive (oh is away!) it would just be interesting to know how my cycle pans out....
im not sure about cm etc but im sure i'll pick it up. not sure i'd do it when he gets back. i realise that we might've been over excited when bd'ing but can't help it lol! i think for ttc's sake we will have to abstain...not easy when you dont see each other as often as you'd like!! he's like a ticking timebomb when he gets back lol!!

If he's young & healthy 3 times a day is no problem. Docs advise to bd every other day if your man has poor motility/low sperm count etc. If you've no reason to think he has, go for it!

If shagging 3 times a day was a form of contraception do you think men would ever have invented condoms?
