I asked dh to research and find a fertility dr through our local hospital. True to his word he has and we have an appt Nov 30 (will be cd 12).

I'm 32, dh 37 and we've been ttc #1 for 15 mos. In that time had 2 miscarriages, 1 at 8 wks, the other was most likely chemical and ended at 6 weeks.

I've had the basic blood tests done to check for antibodies and everything came back fine. I am RH- (me A-, dh A+) but dr said that was of no concern and I had the rhogam shot with both miscarriages.

Just wondering what to expect from the dr appt. Do they do a physical exam, will they order bloodwork? Was a bit surprised that they are not treating dh as a patient, was kind of hoping they would do a sperm count and analysis on him, just make sure they're shaped properly, etc. Obviously we know we can conceive, but there could be genetic probs with the sperm or the egg (or both).

I don't mind being poked and prodded some more if it helps but I'm just not very hopeful.

I started bbt and charting today (cd 2) but won't have complete info to share with dr this go around.

Hi Bernina, sorry that you have been having a bad time. There are some helpful threads on LTTC, also the recurrent miscarriage thread in the miscarriage section of this site, and another thread on tests and treatment.

A really good book by a US doctor is Miscarriage, Medicine and Miracles, can't remember the author, it is a fertility doctor, was helpful in explaining a lot of different issues.

Hi bernina, When DH and I went to our first fertility specialist appointment, DH and I both had to get blood tests. I also got an ultrasound. Since you will be at 12 dpo they will probably check to see if you have any developing follicles and if you are nearing ovulation. They then ordered a ton of tests including a hysteroscopy (look around the uterus for abnormalities and biopsy), clomid challenge (check ovarian reserve), and HSG (dye test to see if tubes are blocked) to be completed during my next cycle. DH was also scheduled for a semen analysis. It was a really crazy month!! My reaction to the clomid was not good. The Dr. started me out at 100mg but it was way too much for me. I was super bloated and felt so crappy for about 3 weeks. I ended up with too many follicles and had to sit out that month and the next while my body regulated itself back to normal. Make sure to discuss this with your Dr if they prescribe clomid. None of this was explained to me.

I also had to call during the first day of my next cycle so they could schedule another ultrasound and more bloodwork. I hope this helps you know what to expect. Good luck and I hope you get some answers!
