Laporoscopy??

Hi all I've been away for a while, still TTC but just wanted to pop on for some reassurances and to hear some of your experiences I guess.

DH and I have been TTC for 2 years now with 1 miscarriage at 5 weeks back in March. We've been going to the fertility clinic for a year now and we know I'm ovulating fine and DH has plenty of healthy sperm so now next Tuesday I'm off for a laporoscopy to check my tubes are all fine - I had an emergency C-section with my son so they are worried that there could be "sticky" bits there that are stopping the sperm and egg from meeting, they also suspect that the miscarriage I had was due to it being an eptopic pregnancy but thats something that we will never know for sure.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone else has had this procdure or knows of anyone that has and that this has then sorted any problems there might have been and have gone on to have a healthy pregnancy?

hey hun, i know its a bit daunting as i nearly had one but then found out that the hsg does the same thing annyway and less invasive. Basically with a hsg they can check if youre tubes are blocked by putting some dye up you if it passes there fine if not its blocked and its over in like 5 minutes wheras with a laproscopy they have you to cut you open but its all the same really id ask them what they thin of a hsg instead xxxxx

Thanks for that - we did discuss that option beforehand but my consultant said she would prefer the laporoscopy so that if there are any "sticky" bits there then she can sort them out while shes there - i think because of the c-section she thinks its pretty likely that there will be something there thats been causing us to not get pregnant!

Laparoscopy isn't bad really. You just have little cut in your belly button where they put the camera in and another in your bikini line. The gas they fill your tummy with so they can see what they're doing is rather uncomfortable afterwards. If it is just diagnostic or only a little work is done then recovery isn't too bad, for some people a couple of days others can take a week. If you are having a lot of messing around in there then it can take a bit longer. I have had 2 laparoscopies in the past 12 months both to remove endometriosis and a cyst so recovery has taken me a little longer. From what I have read your chances of conceiving are increased in the 6 months after the op (I assume that is if anything is done)
If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask!

Thanks for that - my DH is lovely but doesn't seem as concered or worried about it as I am, I mean it is an op under a general after all. But then he's already been though it a few times with his ex wife as she had endometritis! I've only had 2 ops before in my life - 1 when I was 4 and the other was the c-section with my son!!

Did you have dye injected into you to check yr tubes?

No I didn't have the dye as at that point we weren't TTC, we're TTCing because I was told after the second op that if we wanted to conceive we shouldn't really wait any longer.
It was my first general anaesthetic so the first one had me really scared but the second one I was much more relaxed. It's totally normal that you are apprehensive but if it helps you get pregnant it's worth it, isn't it?

Oh yes definately will be worth it - its been a long and rocky road and hopefully this'll bring us to the end of it one way or the other!

I'm just one of lives natural worriers and I'm really wondering what happens to the dye that they inject in through my vaginal opening - does my body absorb it or will I be leaking blue dye for a few days???

It will come out..you won't be able to really see it though..most times we have a cycle after the laproscopy. I had one just last month. Recovery is great but hopefully I can get this :: and you can too!
