Advice about missed period - negative test

Hi I hope you can give me some advice. I had a mmc in August. Since then I have had a couple of very regular cycles and AF was due on Sunday. In the lead up last week I felt "different" and was convinced I was pregnant again. When she didn't show up on Sunday I allowed myself to get my hopes up but this morning I took two tests - BFN. I feel so confused and depressed. I'm going to test again in a few days and if its still negative go to the docs but my question is do I assume I've missed my period altogether and start trying again next week or wait for it to arrive and recalculate my cycle dates? Its so hard after a loss. Grateful for any advice?

Hi Kazi1976, I too always have very regular cycles and last month I was 4 days late and kept getting BFNs. I was told by a doctor that I shouldn't rule out that I was pregnant as it just depends on how much of the hormone you have in your system. Unfortunately I got my AF the following day so for me it wasn't to be. It was a horrible time so I totally understand what you must be feeling right now. I have my fingers crossed for you x

Sorry to hear about your mc. I know how you feel about being late and BFN. I'm day 68 ish of this cycle 2 tests BFN. I spoke with my doctor today and he's booked me in for a blood test in the morning. I would phone your doctors and see what they say xx

Exactly what Fish&chips said! A negative pregnancy test does not necessarily mean that you are not pregnant - it simply means that sufficient levels of pregnancy hormone cannot be detected at that time.

You can't "miss a period altogether" and not be pregnant - it will come late or it won't come at all (ie you will be pregnant). You will not ovulate again or begin a new cycle until this one is finished, when you get your period. Your plan is perfect - test again in a few days, if it's still negative, go to the doctor for further advice, help and info.

I'm so sorry to hear of your miscarriage. This must be very difficult. Do just remember: positive test means pregnant, period means not pregnant (with a few very very rare exceptions), negative test means too early to know yet, wait and see!

I am a week late but have had a few

too. Its really frustrating as you dont know if your coming or going. And like you say...when do we work on being fertile again??? Im going to give it another week and then go to my docs I think. I just wish I knew one way or the other!!

Hi everyone,

I am kinda in the same boat as you all, although my cycle is irregular due to PCOS. The last 5 cycles or so it has been regulating (as best as it will!) to between 34 - 39 days. I am currently on CD42 and its driving me crazy!!! Had a BFN test on Sat and don't really want to do another till next weekend cos don't like the disappointment!!!

I am lucky to have a very supportive doctor so my advice would be to go see them and ask for their help
