What does your doctor say...

Hi ladies

I went to docs this morning for another reason other than TTC and I mentioned we’d been trying for a few months and no luck yet.

I said I was temp charting and also test with ovulation sticks and she said I was wasting my money!

Now I don’t agree with that, but she said ‘the only way to fall pregnant is just to have sex everyday for 10 days smack bang in the middle of your cycle’

Of course I’m going to continue baby dancing as much as possible especially around the big O time, but I was just curious to what your docs say? Do they think ovulation kits are a gimmick and waste of time and money?

Baby to everyone... x

I honestly think some doctors don't know what they're on about at times! Of course they work or they wouldn't be on the market!! And temping is very accurate. My doctor is lovely but he (although he knows I don't ov on CD14) wants me to go for 21 day blood tests. I Ov on or around CD20 so these will come back low!! I'm going to just go 7 days after I ov anyway! Basically, the people on this site may know more as we are trying so its out business to know!!

I saw my doctor before we had started TTC and said we were planning on trying, she said not to bother with opks, temping etc and just to have regular sex throughout the month - that way you don't think about it as much and relax apparently. I suppose it was good enough for a generation or 2 ago, so why not now?!

I havnt spoke to my doc about TTC yet but I think temping and ov sticks are more of a personal comfort than an aid. I think she just means you will get the same results if you BD lots and dont stress about it than planning it so much and stressing yourself out over temps and positive OPK's

But that my opinion, others will think different xx

I think you've hit the nail on the head there!! I def find comfort in knowing we're baby dancing at the right time. I bought cheap internet ov sticks and it didn't show anything that month and I couldn't help worrying the whole rest of the month!!!

my doc was pretty good....i only have the 1 ovary so she did bloodtests only after 4 mths of ttc then again at 11 mths of ttc.....she did say that opk's are good as they detect the surge...but she did confuse me as she said u can ovulate a few days either side of the surge! i thought u only ov after the surge!!! i dunno i try & make sure we do it for about a week over the 'fertile' time x

My doctor told me the same as you, don't bother counting, temping etc. jsut have a regular normal sex life! the less stress the better.

He also told me that if we didn't conceive after 6months of trying he would then send me to a specialist............he says there is no point in wasting time especially when you truly want to have a baby I was thrilled!

My doc thinks that if you are actively trying for 6 months if you have a BFP then move on a year is way to long !

I can't wait! If we don't get our BFP this month I get to get some help for Christmas YEAH!!!!! Here's hoping I don't need halp though

All doctors think differently, just like all people ... on my first visit my doctor told me to chart for 3 months to be sure I was ovulating and that everything looked ok. I guess due to my age (36) she doesn't want to waste any time.

My point is that they are both right, doctors are not gods and may have differing opinions which are just that - opinions!

We didn't discuss OPKs though. Temping is presumably the most reliable of the methods but even that isn't 100%.

Either way, good luck!
