I'm Currently Feeling: | Hope this info I have copied off Wikepedia helps-
Timing of test
False negative readings can occur when testing is done too early. Quantitative blood tests and the most sensitive urine tests usually detect hCG shortly after implantation, which can occur anywhere from 6 to 12 days after ovulation.[2] Less sensitive urine tests and qualitative blood tests may not detect pregnancy until three or four days after implantation. Menstruation occurs on average 14 days after ovulation, so the likelihood of a false negative is low once a menstrual period is late.
Ovulation may not occur at a predictable time in the menstrual cycle, however. A number of factors may cause an unexpectedly early or late ovulation, even for women with a history of regular menstrual cycles. Using ovulation predictor kits (OPKs), or charting the fertility signs of cervical mucus or basal body temperature give a more accurate idea of when to test than day-counting alone.
The accuracy of a pregnancy test is most closely related to the day of ovulation, not of intercourse. It is normal for sperm to live up to five days after intercourse[10] in the fallopian tubes, waiting for ovulation to occur.[11] It could take up to twelve further days for implantation to occur, meaning even the most sensitive pregnancy tests may give false negatives up to seventeen days after the act of intercourse that caused the pregnancy. Because some home pregnancy tests have high hCG detection thresholds (up to 100 mIU/mL), it may take an additional three or four days for hCG to rise to levels detectable by these tests — meaning false negatives may occur up to three weeks after the act of intercourse that causes pregnancy.
[edit] False positives
Evaporation lines may appear on many home pregnancy tests if read after the suggested 3–5 minute window or reaction time, independent of an actual pregnancy. Therefore, it is imperative that a pregnancy test be interpreted within the reaction time specified by the test manufacturer. False positives may also appear on tests used past their expiration date.
A woman who has been given an hCG injection as part of infertility treatment will test positive on pregnancy tests, regardless of her actual pregnancy status. Common infertility drugs like clomid do not contain the hCG hormone.[12] |

| Hi gals, I still haven't had a full AF but the 'spotting' is getting heavier. It doesn't end up on my knickers but there's some when I wipe. It's brown and wet. It's been like this since yesterday afternoon. I thought AF would arrive but only brown CM, which got lighter in evening and during the night, I woke up to pop to the loo and had nothing then when I wiped, copious clear CM. Then I wiped again, and there was brown blood. WHAT'S going on? I don't feel as PG today, I must say. The veins in my bbs have gone. Today, I'm more inclined to think AF is on its way just cos the brown CM has got heavier. If she is starting, then surely she will be here in full flow by Thursday? I think this has lasted too long and is too much for it to be implantation bleeding.
I nearly cried on way to work today, this is really driving me nuts. My mates thinks I should go to the drs now. I was really ill last weekend with a swollen belly and cramping and a high fever. There's the possibility I might have an infection based on this. I just think drs fob us gals off so much when it comes to this kinda stuff. i bet he just tells me to wait till weekend to see if AF arrives. x |

| Hey hun
Sorry to hear this is getting you down
It could be down to you testing early and if you can wait I would wait until the end of the week I know that is torture but from my experience I last had a period on the 8th December and AF didn't come and in the middle of Jan I thought it would be safe to do a test but got a BFN but I totally felt pg anyway went to doc who said to relax and AF will come but still nothing 3 weeks later so finally did a test and got my BFP so it could mean that you ovulated later so you might not necessarily have enough hormones to detect at the moment. I really hope you do get your BFP hun as I know what it is like waiting when AF doesn't come. Do you think you could have implantation bleeding? Or it could be your body just being awkward.
Everything is crossed for you hun xxxx | | | | Status: Offline

| Caster - thanks so much for that info!
Spartacus - I think the spotting / brown CM has lasted too long and isn't light enough to be IB. Interesting what you went through though, I would love love love for me to be PG but I am losing hope with every minute today. I think AF must be a-coming. I just had a little cramp, first time in a few days so trying to delay going to the loo now. x |

| Oh dear, I can tell you've worked yourself up this cycle and there's no stopping you. I hope you get your answer very soon and although it would be amazing if it is a BFP, it's important to keep you head just in case it's not.
I've gone through the stage you are at and know how you feel, but for some reason I'm calmed immensely in the last few days and have continued to temp and ponder my chart. Today I could see a clearer pattern of my temp rise and tried discarding the ambiguous ones, one by one and low and behold the FF chart gave me a revised ovulation day of CD39 instead of CD17. I double checked this and am now almost sure that my ovulation has been delayed. Like you I have kept an AF diary for years and wrote them all out before starting to ttc and worked out that I too had a 28 day cycle. Not this time ... it could be the stress of charting etc., has knocked me out of sync as this happens to lots of people. You are fretting and I know I did too, so hold onto that thought to soften the blow if you are not lucky this month.
However, that said I will keep my fingers crossed for you to get your BFP. That's the ideal result. |
