Anyone know anyting about this? I had a test and the results were 564 miu/L. Apparently this is classed as mild hyperprolactinaemia??

Yes, I had this condition diagnosed in 2006. I was having quite bad headaches and noticed leakage of milk from my breasts. I had an MRI scan an blood test results which revealed a micro prolactinoma. This is caused by a benign growth on the pituitary gland.

Your prolactin levels are at slightly above the top end of the normal range and so you have nothing to worry about as long as it is monitored closely. Are you being prescribed any medication? I was prescribed Dostinex/Cabergoline.

High prolactin can reduce fertililty as it inhibts the hormones necessary for ovulation. This is very easlily rectifiable with meds, which increase your fertility.

It took me one year to conceive my first baby but I wasn't monitoring ovulation or using anything to help. With this preg, it took me 3 months and I was using the meds.

PM me if you have any qs.

Hi, yes I have had raised prolactin in the past and had abnormal milk discharge from breasts even still now. My levels were raised in approx 9 years ago around 900 i think and then they were normal 2 years ago and then I had them tested a few weeks ago as I was worried that I was still getting breast milk and they came back normal at 109. In the past the doctors said it was probably due to either antidepressants as I'd been on antidepressants since I was about 13 or the contraceptive pill. I am now off both and have been since July and I'm still getting breast milk but not doctor said as my results are normal there is no problem. Stress can cause raised prolactin levels as well and they say even the stress of having a blood test can make your prolactin levels rise. There are medications that can be used to reduce your prolactin level but as yours is slightly elevated it's probably not necessary.

I have not had any of the symptoms you have mentioned and I am not on medication. I got all worried because without going into detail, its hard enough for us to be able to get pregnant without me being dud. I don't even know what the 'normal' level would be and nothing was explained to me, I was just ushered away with a bit of paper with the results on. How terrible is that??

I have raised prolactin levels and am currently on Dostinex for it. I didn't have any symptoms other than I wasn't getting pregnant after TTC for over 2 years. The meds are supposed to lower the levels and I'm to be checked again some time next month to see if it helped. I think it did, don't ask how I know, but I think it did. I used to leak breast milk now and then but haven't done that in almost a year.

It's all very confusing and there isn't all that much info on it out there.

Call them and ask them what your levels should be. You should be allowed that right, it is your body. And hun, you are not a dud. Your ovaries went on a vacation and it's time for them to come back!

Hi, I have this too! I was diagnosed in August, I have an appt with an endocrinologist next week so they can prescribe me the drugs to reduce it. My levels were 915 and then 1140, my consultant told me anything up to 500 was considered normal. I havent had any symptoms apart from only having 2 periods in 20 months since coming off the pill. The info Ive read and been given by the consultant seems quite positive about lowering the level with medication. I had an mri scan but they couldnt find anything so have put it down to a tiny benign tumour which is too small to be seen. Its so frustrating but the good thing is it can be treated! x

Hi,
I have just had a second blood test come back, mine has gone from being 750 to 920. Ive been trying to find someone to talk to this about for the last week. I went for tests in February as hadn't had any luck with baby making and a bit of paranoia had set in, I called the Dr's a week after and was told everything was normal.....this was not true. 3 weeks ago I went to the Dr about something completely different and he told me what the real results were. He sent me for more tests and they had gone up so being refered to an endocrinologist in Jan, I just hate the waiting. Im not too worried as there is loads of stuff on the internet of sucess stories....just hope im one of them. But apparently the drugs aren't much fun to take. Plus side though loads of people seem to get pregnant the following month after taking the drugs!!

I haven't had any side effects from the meds, I'm on Dostinex.
