It does work but you have to commited to the rules of charting.
I gave up as my sleep patterns were becoming too erratic but for the time i did chart it was very helpful and accurate.

it definately works if you can wake up at the same time every day incl weekends, thats my downfall at the moment, getting better though. Working 10-12 hour days during the week doesn't inspire me to set alarm on a weekend

Yes, they're brilliant. Your temperature is the only conclusive proof that you have O'd - all the other signs like CP, CM, OPK's just tell you that your body is gearing up for ovulation. However, your BBT will only tell you AFTER you've O'd so it's no good for timing BD'ing.

I will admit that taking your temperature at the same time every morning can be difficult, especially if you have children already but I just set my alarm to go off at 5.30am and then after taking my temp I either get up or I can go back to sleep if I want.

I agree with Jayne. I have been using the basal therometer for almost 5 months now and with that and the help of fertility friend, checking my CM and sometimes using the OPK, I know exactly when I O'd.
I get up in the AM at 630 and take my temp and sometimes go back to bed or just get up.
I do like the BBT but it is an individual choice. Good luck!
