Had My Appointment w/ Specialist

So today was the day I went to see an RE about not being able to conceive. It has been nearly a year. Sooo...here is how it went.

DH and I met w/ the Dr. and he asked us about our history. I gave him everything I could think of that might help. He was glad that I was tracking my cycles and doing OPKs. After going over all my history he said that some things sounded like symptoms for PCOS and Endometriosis and that those are some roads we should explore. And also that there may be some hormonal imbalances.

After that we both gave urine and blood samples. They drew about 7 vials of blood!! The blood tests are to look for chromosome issues, hepatitis, blood type, hormones, to see if we're carriers for genetic issues, plus tons more. It is a little daunting!

Next, we went for an ultrasound. Poor DH looked so uncomfortable watching the whole process. LOL. The dr. showed us my uterus and ovaries and good news..no cysts! Not so good news...no cyst! Apparently since I am right at Day 14 of my cycle/ovulation, we should have been able to see the large cyst/follicle getting ready to release an egg. Unfortunately, I didn't have one. So he said this could be tied in to a hormone issue.

Our next step is to go back for a Day 1 ultrasound for me and a semen analysis for DH. Also a fasting blood test. I am relieved we will possibly get some answers but also nervous about what may be wrong. Anyway, I hope this helps anyone who might be going in for their first appointment and what to expect!

Hopefully it is just a hormonal imbalance that is easy to fix and not the others. FX'd for you!! Glad you are getting some answers and hopefully soon you will have that BFP!!

I dont think it sounded so bad! There are some very easy steps to take to correct a hormone inbalance to get you to release those eggies, and no cysts was fab! Im glad your finally getting to take some steps in the right direction and hopfully a baby wont be too far behind now! After reading Meggs post about her visit, yours seemed a much nicer and more helpful experience! Good luck to you both! xxx

Thanks, girls. You are making me feel better!! I didn't see Meggs post but I will go check it out. I hope her experience wasn't awful. My dr. and all the staff was super nice. I was relieved about that as the experiences with many gyn were awful!
