confused about ovulation testing

So I took ovulation tests this month and the instructions say that it can tell when I am 24-36 hours from ovulation. Now what I am wondering is can I tell when ovulation has ended? Will the hcg level just go away as soon as it ends. I would just like to know when I ovulate for sure.

Checking and knowing the difference of your CM. Internal testing where you feel inside for your cervix to know if you're in your ovulation period. BBT charts, watching your temperature for your "peak" rise indicating ovulation. Feeling ovulation cramps (if they happen, not everyone will feel them) usually a pain in your ovary (i usually feel it on the right side). And of course the ovulation test kits and such like you have tried already.

you can watch all these things (maybe there is more that i have not listed!) to try and determine when you ovulate.

As for when ovulation has ended...i really am not sure, but usually it is like a 24 hour period from once the egg drops into your tubes. I can't really say if you can determine the EXACT time an egg will drop (other than 'during ovulation")...but you have about a day after that has happened for a sperm to catch that egg!!

Good luck sweetie

Well last night while I was watching a movie I was feeling pain on one side for a couple hours. Then I wolk up with cramping today and all day I have been cramping. Do you think it's possible that last night when I felt the pain on one side is when I ovulated and the cramping is just something related to ovulation??? Or today I ovulated??

The pain certainly sounds like it could have been ovulation pains. the pains doesn't necessarily mean the egg is dropping at that second. It can be an indication that ovulation is coming. You can BD all week during the week you are going to ovulate for a chance for the sperm to catch the egg, as sperm can live a few days inside of you.

hi there, I have limited experience using ovulation kits, and I hope this can help. To start off with, the hormone that the kit is testing for is not HCG, but leutenising hormone, just to get us on the same page in case someone has sold u HCG stick as ovulation ones. Your sticks should specify for LH use and detection. Once u get a surge, eg, the test line is as dark or darker than the control line, then that is a positive. This should theoretically mean that u should ovulate within 24-36 hrs. You could continue to test afterwards to make sure that the surge recedes and goes to negative, but most ppl dont.I found with the kits that I was using that I kept on getting positives, over a period of two weeks I got about 5 positives!! I asked the doc about this and she said that my body may be adjusting after birth control and also that I may generally have a high threshold for the hormone. For me, the ovulation sticks didnt work, and just got me altogether more paranoid. Good luck!! Candice xx
