FINALLY got an OBGYN!!!

Well ladies, after waiting 6 months, I FINALLY got a referral to an OBGYN. The referral is for something ENTIRELY unrelated to TTC, but I don't care...at least I'll be a patient of an OBGYN and I can then see her when I finally get pregnant, or it I need fertility treatments.
I got the call today and my appointment is for April 7th! (Ugh..can you believe it?? I requested the referral for unexplained vaginal itchiness (VERY VERY SEVERE)...and it will have taken me 8 months to see a friggin' specialist.

Ladies...if anyone one of you EVER hears someone talking about how wonderful it must be in Canada to have free healthcare, do me a favor and smash them over the head. Our healthcare system is THE worst in the world. In other countries, only the rich and middle class get care, while the poor suffer and wait long. In Canada we're very egalitarian....no one gets good, prompt care. We're ALL made to wait and suffer for months at a time.

I have read and seen news about socialized health care and how long it takes for people just to get routine care I am sorry. Try to be patient and maybe when you go, you will be asking about prenatal care!!!

Good luck.

Free health care systems do seem to have their positives and negatives. I am in two minds about it.

At least on the NHS, everyone is entitled to care.

However, if you are really worried about something, want early investigative stuff or want early scans and things, the NHS have very definite policies on things. I have read heaps of posts on this site of people who have the insurance system in their countries being able to go to have ultrasound scans at 6 weeks and hcg count seems to be the norm. Also, they seem to refer you for gyno problems quicker. In the UK, if you want something out of the norm, you have to pay a fortune for private health care - or pay into health insurance (which in Britain, may not cover you for ttc type things).

The NHS is great in terms of the free care (and its protection of the less well off), but the lack of funds it has, makes it more inflexible.

I am glad to hear you got your appointment though - is there any chance of getting moved up the list?
