I'm Currently Feeling: | When you go to the doc to have your baby??? Well me and the OH were talking and i dont really want to use and epidural if i dont HAVE to.. you know? but i was wondering what type of birth you think i should do considering this is my FIRST baby..??
I know in the end its entirly up to me...but i jus would like some advice ...to kinda guide me..
I'v had my heart kinda set on a water birth because everyone says they go a lot smoother and are more comfy but what do you girls think..?
Also what does it feel like when you get the epidural? Do you feel druged up or what? |

I'm Currently Feeling: | It has to depend on what type of pregnancy you have, special circumstances, if you are prepared and on time etc
There are many factors involved, just talk to your midwife or gp about it | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | Everyone is different - some people are very scared of labour and the pain, others aren't & some want it to be as natural and possible so you plan your birth accordingly. Your midwife really helps you to go through all the options which are availible in your area though.
I'm going to be in the hospital & like you I really don't want an epidural. OH thinks I'm crazy and keeps saying I'm expecting too much and that if it's availible I might as well have it because they do lot's of them every day. Still I'm not scared of labour pains - after all it's natural and would rather feel whats going on!! I plan to do all I can with gas and air and if I can't cope, maybe pethadine. I won't rule out an epidural if I really can't handle it but I'd have to feel like I was going to pass out with pain before I'd let them get that needle in my back!
I think a water birth would have been nice but I don't think thats possible at the hospital I'm under. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I haven't really decided what type of birth is best for me. I think it is something that everyone should do research on, ask their doctors and OHs about and than make the best decision for them. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I didn't want an EPI untill I had my cervix checked. I can't believe that birth is going to hurt MORE. I'd like to not have an EPI but if I can't cope I'm not going to turn it down |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Here's my advice
Do not rule ANYTHING out.....
When it happens don't be surprised/beat yourself up if it doesn't go according to your birthing plan if you make one.
When I was preg with #1 I was going to give birth in floaty white Egyptian cotton pyjamas, with just gas and air and on to a bed of fresh rose petals.....
The reality was I went 10 days over, was induced, my waters broke onto the aforementioned white cotton bed wear, I started with pains thick and fast so I had gas and air followed by pethadine and an epidural for good measure and all this in a paper night gown they lent me!!
See what's available and take the 9 months after your BFP to decide.
Ps - goodness knows how I thought my baby would be born in cotton pyjamas.....perhaps down the trouser leg???? |
