Wow! I wish we got even 9 mos paid mat leave! We get 12 weeks and it's like 65% of our pay. My friend had her baby at the end of June and has to go back to work. They have to put a 3 month old in daycare. It's very sad. This is why I'm working my @ss off to put as much into savings as humanly possible. I'm hoping to drain my account before I have to go back to work. No way will I put a 3 month old in daycare. Not happening.

Here in Canada we get 17 weeks Maternity leave and 35 weeks Parental Leave (total 1year). The parental leave can be used by either the mother or father....or split between them.

It is all paid, but it is a percentage of what you made the year prior. I think its 60ish....but I am not 100%.

Thats rubbish, I was kind of banking on getting maternity pay for 12 months as do not want to go back to work after 9 months it seems far too early
Do not think with hubby's job it'd be possible for him to take 6 months off and as he is the breadwinner definately would not able to afford to live! x

its 55% and it tops out at about $1400/month... youch! we ain't rich, but its hard to carry a mortgage on that much of a drop in income... but then i remember my poor american buddies with their pittance of a 3 month leave and i stop complaining.

its a crime that everyone doesn't get a year off!!

also that everyone doesn't have universal health care!!!!!

This is why I HOPE that I am working where I am now when I need to go on mat leave. They top up your mat leave so you get 100% for 20 weeks (instead of 17)
And for parental they will top it up to 100% for 15 weeks....the last 17 weeks you get what EI gives you only.
