I'm Currently Feeling:

What would you do?

As I've posted elsewhere, I have developed a UTI (cystitis) last night, with blood showing in my urine and have started a 7 day course of antibiotics today, prescribed by my doctor (no choice in the matter).

They are Macrodantin (Nitrofurantoin) 100mg (ONE four times a day for 7 days) and are often prescribed to pregnant women who suffer from this common complaint, throughout their pregnancy.

Do I abstain from i/c and give up the chance of this month (we were doing well so far, so it could be too late already to make that decision)?

Do I wait for a PEAK on my monitor and just BD once on that day only whilst taking the antibiotics? Perhaps using Preseed.

I have asked my doctor, but he is non committal really and just advised to give it a break/take it easy (in so many words, but not very clear). I gather he meant not to keep trying, but he sort of shrugged his shoulders and sat on the fence.

I've posted in another forum to a doctor to seek advice too, so am covering all bases before making any decision at all. Naturally, I would love to keep trying, or at least have one more go, but am frightened of making a silly decision.

I just thought I would ask you all what you would do if you were faced with the same problem, or maybe some of you have experienced this.

I would probably carry on, if the anti biotics are prescribed for pg women then theyre safe to take during pregnancy. Id hate to waste a month.

'A', thanks for your comment. It means a lot to hear your view honestly.

Also, read this! It's the response from the other forum from the doctor on line:

"Macrodanting (macrobid) is a relatively safe antibiotic given to pregnant women with UTIs, and is considered by many docs to be the first choice for treatment of UTIs in pregnant women..

It can be considered safe for one to ttc while on macrobid...

Good luck, and keep us posted..."

It sounds really positive doesn't it?

Yeah honey it does sound ok to continue trying. I wouldn't be too concerned, if there was a major reason not to BD i'm sure your GP Would have informed you. At the most, it may be a little uncomfortable. I think if you missed the chance this month you would beat yourself up over it.

Good luck!

Take the pills but save trying to conceive until the infection is gone. Speaking from experience (vast experience, have had forty in two years) having sex bruises the already tender urethra and prolongs infection.

Some people accidentally get pregnant while taking antibiotics because it's messed with their pill so I wouldn't worry and keep trying. Especially since yours are safe to take.

Also if it's only for 7 days and if you do concieve it takes 7 or 8 days for it to implant, the antibiotics will probably be out of your system by the time it's recieving anything from your blood.

Yeah I'd keep trying as long as it was not going to cause any discomfort.
