Caffeine

Did anyone hear on the news today that they reckon too much caffeine increases the risk of miscarriage? Apparently the recommended daily amount for pregnant ladies is 4 cups of coffee a day but they reckon that should be halved (i thought 4 sounded like quite a lot). I don't have too much caffeine anyway only one or two cups of tea / coffee a day but thought it was interesting.

Yes, wonderful news to be greeted by first thing in the morning.

I don't really know but there are studies which show moderate amounts are safe and then others which suggest you have none at all & it's all very annoying!

It's pretty much the same as the alcohol argument - nobody can make their minds up!

I cut down on coffee in my early weeks because I'm a heavy coffee drinker. I still had a couple of mugs of instand coffee because I'd bet terrible headaches from not having caffine, but the rest of the time I'd try to drink decaf.

Then I went back to drinking 3 or 4 or sometimes even more mugs of instant coffee. I think this was before I reached 12 weeks. I've cut down again a bit but still have days where I might have 3. Mostly I just drink water.

The news about caffeine in the news today will be very distressing to a lot of people TTC or who are on their first pregnancy during all three of my pregnancys i drank excessive amounts of coffee i am a complete caffeine freak and all of my pregnancys have had excellent outcomes all happy bouncy babies and i have never had a miscarriage maybe i am just lucky i dont know there is always something comes up in the news and terrifies the life out of people every now and again but it is up to the individual to decide if they are going to take action or not .

I saw that on the news too. I like my tea! But since TTCing, only have 1 cup of caffinated tea a day, the rest de-caf tea (just as nice) as cafeeine effects your fertility too. My view is, any advice that's offered, I'll take it, what's the harm of cutting down on the caffeine for the sake of the little bean? It's probably a load of bull but I'd rather be careful 'just in case'. x

There was this preg lady at my house one time and I wanted to offer her something to drink and she wanted a regular pepsi right away and I was like, "you can't have caffeine, right?" and she was like "Yeah I can". So I think moderate caffeine is okay. I really have cut down my caffeine intake a lot. I only drink maybe a half-cup of coffee each morning, and have a diet soda here and there, and tea occasionally...I have been trying to drink more water or juice. You have to remember that caffeine is a stimulant.
