20+ day Luteal Phase?

I am currently 9DPO according to when my clear blue fertility monitor detected peak ovulation. If my cycle stays on average 30 days then my luteal phase is 20+ days. Does this seem right?? I thought they were usually only 10-14? Anyone else have a long LP?

I always thought LP were between 10-16 days, then after 18 some Drs say you do not even have to POAS you can assume you are pregnant (only if you chart), but i do not beleive that. I would go by your DPO and test when you get to 12-14 DPO for best results.

Good Luck

Hmm...yeh I don't claim to be an expert. I'm so confused. Haha. My last two cycles were like 33 and 31 days I think. Maybe my cycle is funky this month...its the first one where I have actually knwo when I ovulated. I guess I can just wait and see. *sigh*

Don't worry - it could just be that you ovulated early this month and that could have changed your chart a bit.

20+ days does seem a tad unusual. I am not sure how that affects ttc. I only know that an extremely short luteal phase (known as a luteal phase defect) can affect conception because the progesterone levels start to fall before the baby has a chance to properly implant, therefore not allowing the body to maintain the pregnancy. Once the egg has implanted, then the body starts producing hcg (which triggers off more progesterone).

Last month I had a luteal phase that was 21 days long. I was sooo sure I was pregnant because I had read online that the LP should be 18 days at most and mine are usually 15 days. That info definitely got my hopes up-because turns out I am not. Home pregnancy tests all came out negative and I soon started my cycle again. My husband and I have been ttc for over a year.

You may have OV'd early. Your cycle days can always vary due to any reason but your LP will always stay the same, maybe change by 1 day every so often. So if AF comes, make note of when she does so you can do the math of how many days were in between OV and AF. That will be what your LP always is, no matter when you OV
