I'm Currently Feeling: | There could be a number of reasons why you have not seen a positive this cycle
1) You did not ovulate this month, it's quite normal for women to not ovulate one cycle a year.
2) You have not ovulated yet, factors in your life i.e. stress can delay your ovulation
3) Your surge may last last than 24 hrs so if you test only once a day, you might have missed it
4) Your LH surge isn't strong enough to test positive.
Since you didn't get a positive test this cycle, it would be difficult to count the days in your LP. Hopefully next cycle, you will know your cycle better by charting & testing OPKs. |

Although i can't be sure what this is (i'm going to try charting next cycle to work it out) if i do get a positive sometime soon on my opk's it may mean that i have a short luetal phase but i'm confused as i thought if you had this it makes it pretty impossible to conceive and i have conceived twice. It just had my worrying so any thoughts / info appreciated.
| The place on your ovary that burst to release the mature egg is called the corpus luteum. This structure produces progesterone from ovulation to the first day of your period, unless implantation happens in time in which case it continues to produce progesterone until the placenta can take over at around 12 weeks gestation.
When women measure their bbt (basal body temperature) they are basically tracking the production or non production of progesterone as when progesterone is being produced, a womans bbt rises, and when it isn't it is lower.
Unless implantation occurs within 9 days of ovulation the corpus luteum dies and the uterus sheds it's lining. If implantation occurs in time; hcg is produced which entices the corpus luteum to continue producing progesterone which maintains the lining of the uterus to sustain pregnancy.
A fertilized egg can implant into a rich uterine lining and begin to produce some hcg, but if the woman has a problem with the amount of progesterone she produces, or has a luteal phase defect, she will not sustain an early pregnancy.
Hope that helps! |

Now I know that some women have pretty good luteal phases, but don't produce enough progesterone to sustain an implantation, so once the determination has been made through several months of charts that your luteal phase is of sufficient length, blood tests can be done to make sure you're producing enough hormone to sustain a pregnancy.
If you aren't there are many ways you can take progesterone supplements... creams, pills, injections etc. to increase your progesterone level after ovulation. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I did have a missed miscarriage last May so i thought i was about 12 weeks pregnant when in fact the feutus had stopped growing at about 6 - so if i did have a luetal defect i guess that wouldn't have happened based on the info. I'm thinking i may o early in my cycle also i started testing on CD 16 based on my 33 ish day cycle so i may have missed it! |
