Long cycles - 40 days plus

Hiya, are there any complications if your cycles are long? My most recent cycle has been 43 days, previously was 40 days.

I'm not sure if there is some natural remedy I can take to speed things up? Im going to take my temps and chart this month, but I don't have a clue when I'll OV. everything I've read is all about the"normal" 28 days, ie OV in 14 days.

I know it's best to know your own cycle, but I don't want to miss the right time for DTD and making it count. Can anyone give some advice on this problem?

Thank so much for all the help

hi wiffie,

i too have long, irregular cycles (my last one was 6 months, this one looks like it's going to be in the region of 60 days). i've only been charting this cycle & the last month or so of the last cycle, temping & checking my cervical mucus. both cycles, my cervical mucus has enabled me to pinpoint my fertile time (it's been eggwhite like the last 4 days this time, & i've just had an almost positive opk! so exciting!

i took agnus castus (it's a herbal supplement i've bought in holland & barratt) which i think brought on my period last cycle, & i'm hoping next cycle is shorter than this one. i'll take agnus castus again next cycle. i've also been taking evening primrose oil these last couple of weeks which apparently makes my cervical mucus more fertile as well!

good luck
xx

I was having long irregular cycles normally 42- 50 days on average. I brought a Clearblue Fertility Monitor which was fab as that told me when I was about to ovulate and I would back the monitor up then with opk tests. This cycle I tried Vitamin B Complex but stopped that on cd30 and then ovulated 3 days later according to my monitor and the positive Clearblue opk stick and ff confirmed this with my temp rise. We got out BFP this cycle we had been trying since early last year

The only thing we did different this cycle was the B Complex with Folic Acid supplement which I got from our local chemist.

What was the B complex for? Do you think that helped you this month?

I have long, irregular cycles due to my PCOS - when I got pregnant first time round my doc told me to lose a little weight to help a bit but did tell me that a 'normal' cycle can be 21 days - about 35 days. If there are other probs (my PCOS for example) it can make them longer. I have no idea what cycle length I have now! Ironically, the only time I had a regular 28 day cycle was when I was on the pill! Try agnus castus (SP?!), helps if you have any pain with your periods too.

my cycles are long and irregular too...it is so hard to only have a few chances a year to get preggo when you want it so bad. There are tons of ladies on here who do the agnus castus, alot do combinations of AC, evening primrose oil (increases fertile cm), and B complex along with prenatals and a zinc suppliment for Oh doesnt hurt either.

I asked my doctor about this yestesday as my cycle is about 42 days long and he just said that you will always ovulate approx 14 days before your period starts but the best way to check is with OPK's. I just use the ones from Tesco and they seem to do the job..... We'll see if it's paid off next week

I have a 45 day cycle.

I think the only problem with long cycles is the less chances , unless you have other problems. Those things can happen to women with any cycle length though.

I used OPKs and CM and it told me right away when I was ovulating. That's the important thing, rather than calculators and whatnot for women with long cycles.

My cycles are around 45 days. Last month I started taking Agnus Castus and Evening Primrose oil which brought on my af 3 days later. I have been taking these everyday since, and also folic acid and vitamins. On cd 22 today, and not yet had a positive OPK. Just hoping for a shorter cycle. I did notice this morning that although it said negative on my clearblue digital OPK, that the line was slightly darker than it has been. Does anyone know if that means i'm about to OV? Not sure if I should test again later today just incase.

Catherine x
