What to take for Head Cold?

Hi there,

I've had a humungous head cold since just after Christmas with lots and lots of loose mucous (sorry!) that just seems to be never ending. I am lucky enough that colds never reach my chest, but having ploughed my way through boxes of tissues and battled with temperatures, etc., I've just about had enough.

I have taken Echinacea herbal tea, honey & onion home made cough syrrup, lots of hot drinks, paracetomol (just 3 times) and still no sign of it clearing up all together.

I haven't bothered my doctor as I know this head cold needs to run it's course, but the pharmacy says I shouldn't take anything ... including inhaling menthol vapours (which I've done 3 times) when ttc.

Anyone else suffering, or know any quick fixes that wouldn't harm any possible 'baby'? My husband got really frustrated today, telling me to take a decongestive medicine, but I brought him with me to 2 pharmacies, so he could hear it for himself that I shouldn't take a thing other than paracetomol. Now at least he believes me. Men!

It was both funny and embarrassing in the last pharmacy in Tesco's because the pharmacist gave me his advice at the top of his voice about "all sorts of medication can harm the baby" ... I was mortified as I'm only trying and sculked away past the vegetables to make a hasty escape. Mortified!

Thanks. I agree about the sleep. I'm going 'bo bo's' now as am meant to be working a night shift later from 9pm - 7am. Not funny when you feel under the weather. I'll see how I feel when I get up before deciding to go in. I've already worked 4 shifts dying on my feet.

Saline solution spray is supposed to help clear out your nasal passages. Haven't really tried it myself, but I will be as I am susceptible to colds. Also, at least for night, Breathe Right strips help me. Other than that, sorry, not much to suggest.

i heard that if you take cough medicene it can actually help you ttc,it increases cm,it has to contain Robitussin though. As long as u dont take anything that would "dry u up" in your nose,as it does the same thing in all mucus producing areas
